I feel like its a real dick move by the dolphins to not allow assistants to pursue new positions, especially big promotions.... its just lacking class.

So much for the profanity filter.

I disagree. They are under contract and still employed. So we would just fire them all and let them hopefully find another job? Otherwise, why release an employee that you next HC may want?

We release a few assistants then the next coach comes in saying he wanted to have them run his ship? How dumb do we look then?

The only assistant we're not allowing to interview for other jobs is Jason Garret. Why? Because he's got a future with us. The new coach might want him as OC, and if he sticks around, he's definitely our future head coach.

It's not classless. It's smart.

exactly .... why let him go somewhere else -- when we aren't sure that WE will need an OC ....

they way most folks feel about MM ... they'd certainly rather have an unproven Garrett than another season with MM ...

maybe the 'new' coach brings someone along ... maybe he needs a 'figurehead' while he retains the playcalling .... who knows --

the point is ... should an organization block an individuals ability to improve themselves ... probably not -- however, the PHINS management team is not settled -- and thus, Garrett's place in that team is not known either !!

We arent blocking anyone really except Garrett

Capers contract was over, he could have went wherever he wanted.

Mularky....well I doubt people were lined up at his door offering him jobs

Garrett is the only one we blocked, and that should be a compliment to him, it obviously means he is highly regarded within the orginization.

And he turned down Saban. Has anyone ever thought he wants to stay in Miami. Maybe we dont even need to block him.

If they are only waiting for them to hire a new coach i can understand, but unless that new coach offers him OC position then i still think he should be allowed to pursue a coordinator position elseware.

I think Miami needs to be very careful with this strategy. If Garrett is willing to wait and see if he's going to be the Miami OC, that's one thing. If he is itching to interview and they're stopping him, that could really damage the team's reputation and make it hard to bring in the best assistants.
