Since we got rid of Ginn the front office has not even tried to replace him at KR/PR, we can say what we want about ginn but at least he was a legit threat returning the ball, after watching last nights game and seeing cobbs and sprolles it shows how important a good kick returner is, he can instantly change a game or put you in field position, I don't understand why we didn't get brad smith or johnny lee higgins or somebody like that, i feel like were choosing to be mediocre at that position with bess unless gates turns out to be a decent KR/PR, what do u guys think?

It's funny, because Miami could have easily had Ingram, Cobb and Sproles on this team this year. In my personal mock, I had us taking Ingram and trading back into the 2nd for Cobb. I thought Cobb would have solved that deep threat at WR and our returner issues . . . plus be used in any direct snap formations.

That being said, I think we will be fine with Thomas, Bush and Gates. Gates can return kicks and Bush will get chances on punts as well.

Who knows.. I think there are alot of positions this team ignores. I would even go so far as to say they ignore the OL by not bringing quality guys in and instead bringing in scrubs.

He was a legit threat? The only thing Ginn was good at was getting out of bounds as fast as humanly possible, and screwing over the Jets in ever-surprising miraculous ways.

I'd love to have a good kick returner though... one not named Ginn.

Ginn was a damn good kick returner. He was horrible on punts, but kicks he was great.

I'd be satisfied with them starting every drive at the 20, if they would just fix the offense.

Dynamic special teams and Miami Dolphins does not go together.

I would have kept him on the roster just for that reason alone. :D

Livas was horrible other than 1 or 2 returns. He got cut for a good reason.

um i dont think you will see many people worry as much about specialized kick returners any more as the no fun league kinda killed the need for them...put returners might be next...

agree with the OP
gates looks uncomfertable returning kicks and is your deep threat

bush would be great but has a checkered past with injuries and plans to get the most touches

bess is well bess sure handed ok avg bess doesn't have that breakaway speed or shiftiness or break tackle M.O.
you can interchange nolan carrol and bess similar results.

with the defense the dolphins have they will cause many punts
it make sense to have a player who can get big returns for you
Gates could be that guy but i think it is better to find someone that makes a living doing it..

Well I disagree, We brought in the kid from Tampa Last year who was a great returner to replace Ginn but he just blew. We brought in the kid from New Mexico a couple of years before but he had a fumbling problem. We brought in Livas this year but he didn't do enough to warrant a spot on the roster. As far as Ginn he was good, cant deny that but keep in mind we only kept 5 receivers and 1 was always inactive on game days in Hennings system. Since stone hands Ginn couldn't catch it made no sense to keep him last year. I think we have tried but just haven't got the right guy yet. That part of the puzzle becomes less of a need with the new kickoff rule as evidenced last night 8 touch-backs and 2 returns in a 42-34 game! there were only 2 touch-backs total last year at lambough so obviously its not a big deal anymore.
