I feel like the front office continues to ignore the KR/PR position

Yea but there were 2 TD's returning kicks. Maybe the covering team aren't going full speed thinking the same thing.

Personelly I'd kick every one of them out if I could. Good returners seem to eat us up every year.

Funny cause he was taken off kick return duty in San Fran and put on punt return duty.

Maybe things are different in San Fran, but when he was a Phin he performed much better as a kick returner.

I'm still surprised we let Phillip Livas go. I have noticed that he has not signed with anyone else so maybe we have a spoken agreement with him.

He clearly did a great job doing returns in preseason. We were gaining yards on every exchange because teams started kicking punts short and out of bounds and Kick Offs deep in the endzone.

C Gates has the speed but not the quickness and experience to be a punt returner. (btway, the DB we just signed is a return guy) Plus I do not want Gates used there and using practice time away from being a WR.

Phillip Livas also can be a very fast slot WR as he showed in the last preseason game.

Anyway, my last vent about Phillip Livas..........

Im not surprised we let Livas go. KRs are dead, and I don't see us keeping a player just so he can do PRs.. I know I know Cobb got that TD, but it was a terrible idea to take the ball out that deep in his own end zone, but it was a miraculous return.. I thought Nolan Carrol did a pretty good job on returns last year, where we didn't need Livas.. Just let Nolan run full speed and if he gets hit he gets it. I swear he took some shots last year, then he took some shoe string tackles and went flying 5 years, but he was still better than Patrick Cobbs and Bess! lol

agree bring back livas

We had one and cut him. It's ok though because the FO knows what they're doing and never makes questionable personnel decisions.

Kick returner is now very over rated with the new rules IMO..That 5 extra yards is so big..Teams are getting a ton of touchbacks..Going to see far less kick returns for touchdowns and even players taking kicks out.. Punt returner again is just not that big a deal..Most player dont have oppurtunities to even return those..I just want someone who is going to hold onto the ball.. If a guy can take it to the house its a bonus....However i would have loved it, if we had kept Livas.

KR obviously matters. To say otherwise is absurd. MANY teams have Ks who don't have "enough leg", even from the 35. Hell, MIAMI's one of them: didn't you guys watch CARPENTER's KOs this preseason??? Not every team has a S JANIKOWSKY (sp?).

And, of course, the new kickoff rule has NO EFFECT whatsoever on PUNTS. It was a PUNT that LIVAS took "to the house", not a kickoff. LIVAS made great returns even when he gained little to nothing. Do any of you remember the DALLAS game at all? TWICE, there were short punts, low line drives. One was 36 and one was 31 Yards. LIVAS ran up at full speed and fielded BOTH. On the 31 yard Punt, he only picked up 6 or so Yards. BUT!!!!! What would've happened if he let that short, low, line drive Punt hit the ground???? Here's a hint: bye-bye field position. Here's another hint: a while back, GATES let a punt bounce in front of him, at about the MIAMI 20. It went right thru his legs, and (luckily) didn't touch him. But it rolled down to about the 8 Yard line. I hope that GATES at least learned something from that episode. LIVAS didn't have to...he instinctively already KNEW.

Now, think risk. It seems foolish to risk our 2 "big play" burners, C GATES and R BUSH, returning Punts and Kickoffs when we have someone who specialized at it in College, and who does the little things like fielding low/short punts instinctively, and who also is a burner (or very colose to it). Sometimes I just feel that MIAMI's F-O is plain old STOOOOPID from top to bottom.

the WHOLE POINT of the KR game is to NOT HAVE TO START FROM THE 20 everytime!!

thats why there has always been returns, to get as many yds as possible to help the offense!!!

it hasnt been helped or deminished in ANY way. same as 5yds up, if its there, RETURN IT! if its not, DONT return it.

livas showed in the pre season and the saints and packers showed in the opening game that the return game is alive and well and as VITAL as ever!

i want livas back and he WILL be missed!!
