I'm not a guy to make bold claims, I didn't even expect Miami to win this game. But I like what I see from this team. We're obviously deficient in key areas, but this team fights to the end and has major talent in Ronnie, Ricky, and this O-line (even if they have been napping the past two weeks). There are things I see in this team that really give me confidence about them.
1. This team can put LOOOOONG drives together, clock chewing, physical and varied drives. Today we had a 10 minute drive! That's insane! This has become a team trait, not a fluke!
2. This team always finds a way to put itself in position to win at the end of each game. The Colts game, the Saints game, the Jets game, now this game. We are not perfect at the last minute drives, but the more experience the better.
3. My opinion, I really like what I see in Henne. He avoids the turnover, he can put the ball in tight spots, and makes clutch throws in the last five minutes. Now if only his receivers could catch!
4. Physical, Physica, Physical. This team plays tough and never gives up.
5. Ted Ginn is rejuvinated at the special teams position. He was amazing returning kicks last week, and this week gave us great field position throughout the game. Get him on punt returns!
6. We have two young corners who will get better and better each week. Yes, our secondary is a weak spot, but these guys put up a good fight against the leagues best trio of QB/WR/WR in Brady, Moss, and Welker. WIth better pressure today and this secondary plays really well and gains national media credit.
What don't I like? I don't like the lack of pass rush, the awful receving in clutch situations, and trick plays that kill drives. Oh, and I hate taking Henne out for a predictable White run up the gut for two yards. Not needed!
All in all, I feel very confident this team will show up big time the next three weeks against the Bucs, Bills, and Panthers. Are the wins guranteed? Heck no! But were playing teams we can beat who are definitely not playing on the level of the Saints, Colts, and Patsies.
Beating New England at home in four weeks makes up one game against New England. With them having the Colts, Saints, and Jets between now and then I see them losing at least one, hopefully two. If they lose two were playing for first, if they lose one we can still be a game behind with four whole games left if we beat them in Miami plus the tie-breaker of a possible 5-1 division record to their likely 4-2 division record. That's a lot of opportunity with a lot of football left to play.
Of course the Patriots winning the next three puts this all to a dead halt, but they got a tough three weeks to go.
But yeah, I have not been this confident in a Miami team in a long time. I think we will win the next three and play a very meaningful game come December 6. Despite the loss today, it doesn't feel like the sky is falling for the first time in a long time.
Just my two cents.
