because of a #'s game, he meant these numbers $$$$. I don't see the logic in signing another FB when we have like 5 guys that can play there at any time and other holes to fill on this team. I know that Saban is a lot smarter than me when it comes to our team but I can't help but wonder why this move was made.

Doesn't make much sense to me either. Nor does putting Sammy Morris at FB, unless we're going to start running a LOT more short passes to the backs.

It wasn't like Heath's size was allowing him to move people around. Morris should be able to stop people at the point of attack.

It doesn'y make sense unless Saban wants to play Ricky & Ronnie HB-FB combo and more 3Wr set. Morris makes a better backup in that case. Who knows??

You wonder why he was cut, after presuming it was because of dollars? It could be anything and a combination of everything. I doubt it was $$$$ unless Saban felt he was over valued and not worth the money. I think it would be more about performance or not fitting into what Saban wants.

I'm going on the fact that Evans told the PBP that Saban told him the move was made and that he was a victim of the numbers game. I'm not speculating there. I'm just going on what the cut player was told by the coach himself.

I think they realize that Gus is so bad they're going to have to become a running team and they need a pure FB the rest of the way. Evans is a poor man's Konrad and didn't look like much as a lead blocker.

I don't know anything about Barnes but am guessing he's a lead blocker.

The Ricky/Ronnie thing is going to be hard to make work b/c Ricky isn't much of a blocker and Ronnie is too good to sit in the backfield as a blocker.

Well, if that's true, they might as well bring back Jamar Martin.

we know jamar is a good run blocker, but maybe hes got other deficiancies... maybe hes not good at the pass blocking, cant catch, etc...

i dont think evans was doing anything really to help this team, nor was he hurting it in anyway i could see... but maybe he just wasn't working out for what saban/linehan want to do...

uhmmm, Darian Barnes was signed as a new fullback. So obviously the numbers game statement was a lie/excuse.

I'm sticking to my original belief...Evans wasn't getting the job done.

Well, lets not forget that Sammy originally WAS a FB... Also Holmes and Diamond are going to play at H-Back as well as Barnes.

As far as Evans it makes no sense, he was a twin copy of Rob Konrad basically... I feel bad for him.

But we did bring in LeJeune, another LSU kid who couldn't cut it with any other NFL teams.....Sense a pattern?

It was either that or he does not fit what is about to transpire. I think having him in the first place was a big ? to me. I thought the idea was Ronnie at Fb and Ricky at RB. Then get Morris into the mix. We need to get the short passing game on track and everything else will blend alot better. The new FB wont see any PT. Prob insurance and cheap insurance at that.

barnes is a decent FB. never caught on with tampa bay, mainly because they never really used a true fullback, and jameel cook was pretty good, so he became expendable. he's good on special teams, too

Evans played poorly and dropped passes. I'm glad Saban made this move. First poor performing starter to be cut. This one was overdue. Any guesses on who's next?
