Now I admit I haven't been following the situation in Minnesota too closely...But if Daunte doesn't have a big question mark then why did the Vikings trade him? I mean, who do the Vikes now have on their roster who can play QB? Brad Johnson (Turns 38 in September), Shaun Hill (ZERO attempts in the NFL), and JT O'Sullivan (ZERO attempts in the NFL)? WTF?

Saban has not given me any reason to doubt him, so I'm backing this deal. I'm just a tad concerned about it...

BTW, can somebody give me a synopsis of the "Boat Incident"?

They wanted to move in a different direction, The vikings started to win after he got hurt and benched, he also said he wanted out of Minny.

Childress wanted Culpepper out because of his attitude. He refused to rehab in Minnesota, had the whole party boat fiasco pending, and didn't agree to meet with Childress until a month after he had been named head coach. As far as the injury is concerned, the consensus everywhere i have read is he can fully recover and could be ready for action anywhere from late pre-season to around the fourth week. Personally, I wasn't a big proponent of Brees only because our offense didn't fit his skills, in my opinion. I think Culpepper is a great get, and fits very well in our offense!

According to sources daunte and co. Were on a boat of up in canada or northern minnesota with a bunch of high end call girls receiving oral sex, and doing cocaine.. However daunte did not partake in the drug activity.. That's the story I was told..

Irreconcilable differences. Once Dante sent that email out that he wanted out, it sealed his fate. It didn't matter to Vikings brass that they have no successor. Better to start from scratch than to have a cancer-type on your team.

Boat Incident = Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n Roll.

The idiot former ownership and management of the Vikings poisoned the well so badly that ridding themselves of their second star in as many years was necessary to right the ship. Pepper was part of the problem, and that is certainly an issue to keep an eye on. Still, his talent probably is worth more than his contract plus the price of the second round pick if his knee heals as well as the knees of Edge, Jamal Lewis, and McGahee have healed.

Blitz, questions about getting a Pro Bowl QB in his 20's for a 2nd round pick are natural.
I wouldn't consider that being a party pooper. Especially in light of those on this board who are disowning the Dolphins because of this move.

There are two things that bother me about Daunte:

1) He can't seem to win outdoors or on grass or the road. Which? I don't know. Sort of like how Favre plays worse in a dome.

2) We gave up THIS year's 2nd round pick when this draft is loaded with talent whereas next year's is not so much. Our 2nd rounder should have been conditional where it drops to a #3 next year if Daunte can't take a certain percentage of snaps but could escalate to a 1st if he makes the Pro Bowl or throws 25 TDs, something like that.

Otherwise we have a QB finally.

1) He beat Green Bay at Lambeau in the playoffs two years ago.

2) The risk of upconverting to a 1st is greater than the benefit of downgrading to a 3rd. Besides, it is doubtful the Vikes would have went for a conditional 2007 pick. This draft is no more loaded than any previous year. Last season, all anybody talked about was how weak the draft was; however, many impact players came from the said draft. We were wise to make this move.

I was curious about this, so I did some digging. I believe these are accurate stats I am posting. I had to look up a few stadiums to check if they had grass or turf at the time. I also had to be wary of new stadiums and temporary stadiums. So here are Daunte's road and grass records:

4-4 Road 2-2 on Grass 2000
0-5 Road 0-3 on Grass 2001
2-6 Road 0-5 on Grass 2002 Giants Stadium had grass that year and the 2000 playoff game
2-5 Road 1-4 on Grass 2003
3-5 Road 1-4 on Grass 2004
0-4 Road 0-2 on Grass 2005
1-2 Road 1-2 on Grass Playoffs (2000 and 2004 seasons)
12-31 Road 5-22 on Grass Overall

I did include the Panthers game last year where he got hurt and they lost. Brad Johnson relieved him in that contest. Also included is the Lions game in 2003 where he got hurt and was relieved by Gus, which they ended up winning. And the 2001 game against the Steelers where he got hurt as well. Todd Bouman relieved him there and the Vikings lost.

Are you really that naive? I mean can you honestly, on your own, not come up with valid reasons for the divorce between Daunte and the VikingS? Yeeesh man, open your eyes. After that whole sex boat scandal that franchise had had enough. Brad Childress is the new man in town and he wants the team shaped in his image.......... Daunte Culpepper definately did not fit that image. It didn't help that Daunte was owed a huge roster bonus, that he is recovering from a busted up knee, he wasn't there to greet his new coach, barely talked to his new coach, and reported the press through emails that he wanted out.

Still confused?

I think the whole offense up there in Minny with Tise now gone, new owner, Moss and Linehan gone. It was obvious things were changing rapidly in all corners of that offense.
They have plenty of money now to buy a new team, and us taking his contract off there hands is not such a bad deal for them like many think. It simply washes Daunte out of there hair. It works for both sides and that is why there was a deal for Daunte all along in place.

The deal is not bad for us either because Daunte is now coming home, and the season he had last year is just a wash. Its obvious all the changes effected him but Mularky is coming from the same atmosphere and the two will quickly become great partners/winners.
