All those who wondered why Brian Billick wasn't interviewed by the Dolphins (or anyone else) for the coaching job should have to listen to him on the NFL Network. Over and over, he says Joe Philbin wants Matt Flynn for the lone reason of implementing his own offense and not submitting to Peyton Manning. Hmm. Billick doesn't think this came up in the job interview? That the quarterback issue wasn't discussed completely? And Philbin wasn't on board with going after Manning? What Billick's words really say is he would have a problem with shaping the offense to Manning because, of course, it's always all about Coach Billick.

I just don't see Manning meshing with Philbins plans. Everything he's said, has not been encouraging if you read between the lines

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin says he hasn’t talked to Peyton Manning
"I have not talked to him, not at all," Philbin told the Sun Sentinel. "We had a busy day in the office. We're evaluating draft prospects and putting our playbook together so I have not spoken to him.""Honest to God, I didn't pick up the paper today," Philbin told the Sun Sentinel. "I haven't been on ESPN.com. I've really been busy with other things, and that's the truth. ... He's obviously had a phenomenal career up to this point in time," Philbin added. "From all indications he's been a great leader in the locker room. He's had a great career with the Colts, and we'll see how things develop in the next week or so."

Sorry folks, Philbin is very lukewarm on Manning!

Yeah, but it's Peyton fricken' Manning!!! He'll adapt to anything and you will adapt to him. Period!

theres a reason billick didnt interview w/ us and im sure its not pleasant.
in the end philbin doesnt have any final say so on which qb we select. he should sit back and enjoy the ride.

Agreed with the OP. This is why I think Manning will end up elsewhere. Not that Philbin has a say in the matter, but I doubt Manning will want to play for a coach that doesnt want him, while half the league is salivating over him.

While it's as plausible as any other theory, I'm not buying it. This was a known possibility a long time ago when we were looking at coaches. It came up. If he thought he'd be overruled at any point with something he didn't want, Philbin would have gone elsewhere. We don't know for sure he even wants Flynn. Just because he was the coach in GB when Flynn was the backup doesn't mean he's sold on him as his own starter. How do we know that Manning wouldn't be fine with going to our new offense? Let's just see how this plays out.

Maybe Philbin and Sherman had other plans but do you really think the idea of Peyton throwing to Wayne and Marshall with Bush out of the backfield while still having ALL your draft picks isn't irresisable ? Sherman would have a top 5 offense just handed to him.

Philbin absolutely wouldn't/shouldn't reach out to Manning. It's ireland and ross who make the roster decisions. Philbin can give his input but at the end of the day he'll have to deal with the players he's given. Also it's not like Fox or Wisenhunt have contacted Manning either. They met with him after the FO brought him in.

P.S. Ross had to have mentioned the possibility of Manning during the interview. If Philbin disagreed, then he wouldn't have gotten the job.

Right...so you expected Coach to say: "holy crap, could you imagine if we get him?!?!?!?" Place ZERO stock in what is said to the media publicly. Think about it this way, should Philbin instead get everyone's hopes up or downplay the situation? What does he gain by gushing about how great it would be to have Manning? They're playing it down because they know they do have a real shot and don't have to say too much. For all we know Manning told them I want to come here but I'm going to visit a couple of teams to assess what my value is and then we'll talk contract. We just don't know.
