is it possible that he saw, or sees something in AJ, or Gus that made pass on any one of the QBs that we could have had?

Or did he blow it?

I think he saw good players on the board that could help him this year at other need positions. Most likely no drafted QB would have started for us this year. However, Ronnie, Roth, Crowder, Daniels can all start... Four potential starters isnt a "blown" draft. Vickerson looks good too..

he probably saw that no qb's were worthing taking in this years draft.

definitely next years draft is stacked with qbs and i see saban scouting and taking one of them.

Oh, don't get me wrong. It was a great draft. We'll have more starters out of that draft than all of Wannspeil's combined.

I meant just regarding the QB position. Did he blow THAT? Or are we missing something?

i think he addressed a need... Ricky was a question mark.... running backs make the most impact on a team coming out of a draft. And he got the best player possible with the pick.
No QB has shot the lights out.

I believe hes moulding the team in the areas that need foremost attention.. offensive and defensive lines... RB was a glaring need... Saban did well. The QB class is much better next year... they say the best since '83.

....

He just didnt think that the QB's left on the board weren't worth the #2 pick.

Oh, well, I think he felt confident that he had good potential with AJ and Gus here. When your OC says he is comfortable with a QB, as Linehan probably is/was with Gus, I think the coach doesn't put a rush on getting a lower round QB on board.

However, I think if a elite QB was there at our second pick overall, we wouldve taken him.

I think AJ will surprise everyone with his play this year, he isn't the bad player some assume he is.

Excellent post, I absolutely agree. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that Saban looked heavily in the QB situation before drafting and that maybe things just didn't fall in place in order for us to draft a QB. If Alex Smith fell to #2, I feel that we would definitely had a better chance of getting him than Ronnie Brown or anyone else. Maybe Adrian McPhearson dropped later in the 5th to when we were picking, we may have gotten him over Anthony Alabi. There is no doubt in my mind that Saban went with the best player available every round that we picked in and that it just so happened that QB wasn't the BPA the times that we were up to pick and I really don't see Nick second guessing himself. I am not so sure how confident in what we have with our QB's right now, but he definitely is confident enough to stick with what we got for now. Maybe he figured if we were to draft a QB, it would just be experimental and that any QB we did draft, definitely wasn't going to be starting for us this year... look at Brock Berlin. He saved us from wasting a draft pick on a QB and got Berlin as UDFA and gave him a shot and he did pretty well but he just got released. Maybe he'll get placed on our Practice Squad, and maybe he'll be back in the nearby future but I'm glad at least Saban attempted to bring in a rookie QB and it didn't work out but best of all we didn't waste of a draft pick because of it. I am very happy with our draft and very excited about ALL of our rookies... Ronnie Brown, Matt Roth, Channing Crowder Travis Daniels, Anthony Alabi, and Kevin Vickerson. All look like they are going to make the team for us and all could very well be potential starters for this team, even Alabi and Vickerson have a realistic possiblity of being starters a few years ago from now. We definitely got some great quality players and I feel we had one of the best drafts.

I was surprised that Miami didn't draft a quarterback. When Kyle Orton fell to round 4, I thought Saban would pull the trigger there and he has looked good in the preseason for whatever that's worth. I love the draft, though. Saban scores very high with his first Dolphins draft.

again don't misunderstand me, I like the Brown pick. But guys like LeFors, McPherson, Orlovsky etc. were available after the 1st round.

I believe Coach Saban had said that if Adrian McPherson would have still been available for our 4th rd pick he would have gave it a serious thought about drafting him. But I'm kind of glad he didn't, I believe Travis Daniels is going to be a very good player for us.

does anybody have the time/desire to post which QBs were available after the first round?

Here is another quick though...

Will there be a "better" RB in next year's draft... better than Ronnie?

Probably not... so...
better to get a QB next year, since it seems to be much deeper at QB.

here are someQBs to look for:

1-Matt Leinart, USC
2-Omar Jacobs, Bowling Green
3-Paul Pinegar, Fresno State
4-Bruce Gradkowski, Toledo
5-Chris Leak, Florida
6-Kellen Clemens, Oregon
7-Reggie McNeal, Texas A & M
8-Charlie Whitehurst, Clemson
9-Tyler Palko, Pitt
10-Brodie Croyle, Alabama
11-Josh Betts, Miami (OH)
12-Darrell Hackney, UAB
