a football figure so universally and vehemently reviled in the media as Nick Saban has been in the past few days. Its amazing. Even Ricky had people who were willing to come to his defense, and the condemnations were never this strong. It hit home while I was watching the first few minutes of Inside the NFL last night. They had Peter King along with Marino, Carter, Collinsworth, and Costa. King was a big Saban fan, I believe he was the first guy to refer to him as "one of the top 5 football coaches at any level." He didn't just have a negative opinion of Saban, he was furious! He called it a crock the Saban left for "family reasons" and that the real reason was that he couldn't stand losing so he ran. Then they cut to Chris Carter, who was as pissed off as King and Carter was ripping him for blaming talking about personnel issues when all personnel decisions were Saban's alone. Collinsworth chimed in, saying that this was the best thing ever to happen to the Dolphins. What got to me wasn't just the negativity, it was the fact that these guys who never had any direct connection to the franchise he hurt were so completely disgusted by what he had done.

Its everywhere though. Not just the local media, but the national media as well have been eviscerating Saban as every turn. His reputation has been slashed to ribbons. You've got to wonder now how this will affect his recruiting abilities considering he's now widely considered to be a liar, a coward, and a hypocrite. It goes without saying that he'll have a hell of a time pulling any recruit from North and Central Florida, and South Florida may as well not exist on the map for him. Now I'm starting to think this move will kill him all across the country with the exception of the fraction of Alabama kids who aren't already going to Auburn. He's given rival coaches one hell of a sledgehammer to us against him.

I think Nick is in for a rude awakening at Alabama. The SEC is filled with top-tier football programs, and it is going to be hard enough for Bama to win their side of the SEC, let alone a National Championship.

I can't wait to watch Auburn kick Saban around the field next year.

Well said. I agree 100%, FWIW.

The quote of the night was Marino's. Saying that Shula drops 20 pounds on the nutrisystem diet and returns to coach the fins. :D

I normally dont like Carter in that show but last night when I saw him...He was SOOOOOO pissed, it was great...I love all this negative press Saban is getting...I love it!

Imagine those Miami Dolphins fans that are parents to young athletes he's trying to recruit? I wouldn't be surprised if they ***** slap him when he shows up at their door.

I guarantee you that within a week, every Alabama recruit is going to have 11 DVD's in his mailbox containing clips of Saban saying he wasn't going to be Alabama's coach, then jumping to him two weeks later being announced as Alabama's coach. Don't know that you need much more than that.

I usually dont watch alot of colllege games except the bowl games. But come next year I will follow the Tides and watch his misery unfold.

I was supportive and defended him when he left here to come to you guys, but SORRY NICKY..... you're not fooling me again.

Good stuff...hopefully it has some major fallout on him where he gets fired after one year in Bama and develops an alcohol addiction or maybe he starts hittin the pipe.

:sidelol: Oh lord, this is why I need a TiVO :sidelol: Another touchdown for Marino!

That's a little too harsh, even for Saban.

I couldn't agree with you more...I'm a U of Arkansas Alum, and the SEC, the SEC WEST in particular is loaded with excellent teams and every program seems to be on solid ground right now with established coaches....it's gonna be tough for Nick.... Can't wait to see McFadden lay 200yds on him next season in Tuscaloosa ( and then pass for a couple TDs for good measure! :D ) !
