There is not one positive I can think of that he brings to the team at this stage of his career.

1. He is a retread Super Bowl coach who last won his ring 17 years ago in SB XXXIII. Huge negative.

2. He has won 1 playoff game since then. That is 1...yes ONE...playoff game in the 15 years he was coaching since he last won a ring. One. Congrats...I think the Miami Dolphins have won the same amount of playoff games over that same stretch. Yawn.

3. Why? Because he coached Plummer, Cutler and RGIII...and loved Tannehill? Guess what...Georgia's new OC coached Drew Brees at Purdue. Whopper.

4. Just because he can get real red in the face and gets angry doesn't mean he is a good coach anymore. He isn't.

Pass.

There is nothing he brings to the table that would turn this franchise around. He isn't a spring chicken so he won't be here for the long haul. He hasn't accomplished anything other than firings and failure in the past 17 years. This isn't a hire that would fire me up. Hell, it would make me go into turtle mode.

Please don't let this happen. Then again this is Ross...ugh.

Not one positive?

He'll fix the OL. There's one.

This. Seems like another middle of the pack dud that the Dolphins seem to be drawn to, like moths to flames. I'd rather just keep Campbell than let Shannahan's subpar arse step foot in this beat to the ground, oddball organization that is the Miami Dolphins...end rant.

It would be a heck of a hire, but I am not sure it happens.

NFL fans are funny, experienced coaches have 0 value to them.

I remember when Andy Reid got fired from Philly. And NO fans wanted any part of him. One of the best coaches in the NFL and fans considered him a bum. Smh...

We need Shannahan in the worst way. Don't over think this....

I disagree.
He has forgotten more about coaching and winning ball games than some of those "younger" guys looking for "on the job" training.
I am tired of this team getting constantly SCHOOLED!

I love the Shanahan idea. He is exactly what this team needs

Not my first choice, but Shanahan would be a great hire for a handful of reasons:

1) He could correct the OL without breaking the bank. Has a knack for finding small but powerful lineman and would solidify the line, our biggest need.
2) He's a fan of Tannehill. Wanted to draft him because he knows how to use him. Drafted Kirk Cousins in the fourth round so he could also put in his .02 on picking a later round QB this year. If Tannehill regresses (which I doubt under Shanny), it would be great if Grier had his input on a QB to take late in the draft. A guy who could actually compete with Ryan.
3) If Lamar Miller bails, he could make the most out of Damien Williams, Ajayi, and a late round RB if he finds one he likes. His specialty.
4) Has plenty of coaching experience. Could assemble a staff arguably as good as/better than any coach we've had since Shula.
5) Saved the best for last... he'll ring Tannenbaum's ear if he disagrees with a personnel decision. He is not a do-body and will make his opinion loud and clear. Not a flake like Philbin.

I don't think Shanny will be hired only because Tannenbaum won't want a coach who would/could potentially butt heads with him. 2 big egos in one room.

If you sat through this season, you shouldn't be talking about who you could handle being our coach. Pretty much every candidate is better than what we went through this year. Calm down.

Andy Reid is Exhibit A of how a supposed wash-out coach still has it, if given the chance.

Everyone quick! Name the last head coach in Miami who has previous NFL coaching experience.

If you guessed Jimmy Johnson you are correct.

Since Jimmy we have had

Wanny
Bates
Saban
Cameron
Bowles
Sparano
Philbin
Campbell

What is wrong with a guy who has had some success, or at least has some scars? All the BS that seems to constantly surround this franchise actually calls for someone with experience.

Say what you want about Shanahan, but he is 170-138 as a coach in this league. Go ahead and add up all the records of the guys in Miami since JJ and you tell me how it stacks up.

Shanahan would command instant respect and would get this franchise heading in the right direction.

The fins could do a lot worse than hiring Shanahan. He actually wanted to draft Tannehll instead of RGIII. He knows how to run balanced offenses. He would not be learning on the job (unlike Cameron, Sparano, Philbin, and Campbell). He knows enough people to hire a solid staff.

Just say no to RETREADS!!!!!

We've been down these roads...

1) College coach - Saban, arguably the best college coach going.. that was a big fail.
2) Offensive Coordinator - Cam Cameron and Joe Philbin*. Asterisk for Joe, since he was not really the offensive coordinator. Calling Philbin an OC is kind of like calling a successful business owner's 20 year old son "General Manager". Fancy title, but not a lot of responsibility.
3) Players coach - Dan Campbell. Bravado galore and any player's favorite, but does that translate to W's? Or even good decisions on the field? Could a guy like this even assemble a competent staff? I don't think so.

What else is there to choose from but retreads? I will admit, I will be happy if the Dolphins land Gase, Jackson, McDermott, Haley. But other than those guys, who else has the best chance to turn this team around? Most likely a guy with plenty of HEAD COACHING experience.

I would love a "retread" if it turned out like Andy Reid in Kansas City. Canned by Philly, goes to KC and builds a hell of a team. Does he have his faults? Definitely, but he sure knows a lot about how to run a football team. We need a REAL coach after Joe Philbin, who was IMO the worst Dolphins coach in history.

Andy Reid is Exhibit A of how a supposed wash-out coach still has it, if given the chance.

this guy gets it.
