With all the focus on the offense so far this year, I hope Capers is working our DBs hard over the summer break and at training camp. We are definitely going to have our hands full with the Patriots this year. Jason Allen and our other DBs with weaknesses in their game better step up big for us this year or we're in trouble. The Patriots could burn us good twice this year with the weapons they have now. Friggin Brady could scorch our DBs in multiple ways this year with just Wes Welker, not to mention Moss, Stallworth and Gaffney. If we can embarrass the Patriots twice this year, we could really make some noise and start visualizing JT and Zach hoisting a Lombardi maybe. Beating the Patsies this year will blow a lot of people's minds.

Capers better leave nothing to chance with our pass defense this year. Capers is getting paid the big bucks for us this year. He needs to make sure we can stay up there with the top 5 defenses. Other NFL teams respect our defense. We need to keep it that way. We need to drive Brady and Pennington and all the other QBs nuts this year with our pass rush and (hopefully) highly trained DBs. :D

It's going to take more than just good defense of course. Cam knows by now after the Chargers lost to the Patriots in the playoffs last year that when it comes to beating the Patriots, our offense is going to have to go tit for tat with Brady and light up that scoreboard. Cam needs to prepare our offense to throw the kitchen sink at them. Gotta have a lot of weapons and we need to be very good at using every one of them. I hope Trent Green is ready for some bigtime AFC East games. Bill Belichick is now your nemesis Cam. Beat Bellychick twice a year and you'll get very popular in Miami quick.

Truthfully, Im not worried about the rat-triots at all this year. We play them tough every year and Brady knows JT will be all over him. Moss is washed up and stallworth is injury prone/and a drug addict

It's going to come down to pressure. That's the only way we'll beat the Pats. We have to be in Brady's face A LOT. We saw what happens last season when you beat Brady up: He starts crying and his game goes to hell. If Brady has time against us, there is no way, barring a miracle, that our DBs will be able to hang with their WRs.

If were lucky we will split with them. They are stacked at the WR position right now if everyone stays healthy. Knowing Dante Stallworth he will be out at least 3-4 games which still leaves Moss, Welker, Gaffney, Caldwell, Kelly Washington, Jackson, Gabriel and Watson. However i don't think that all of the WRs are going to make the team. Call me crazy but if Reche' Caldwell happens to be cut don't think it's too crazy for him to wind up in a finz uni.

Chambers
Hagan
Ginn
Caldwell
Booker

That right there could be a pretty good 5 wide set.

I want to see Joey Porter intimidate the hell out of Brady this year. I think some well timed trash talk by Porter might spook Brady pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing Porter do a good Tom Brady celebration dance in the backfield after he sacks him. :chuckle:

He can play with more confidence than he did playing for the Steelers knowing that he has 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Jason Taylor on the other side ... and Truck clogging up the middle so Zach and Channing can zero in on Maroney if they try to run it alot. We definitely have the studs at linebacker this year. I hope Vonnie and Matt Roth play as hard as they ever have this year. We're missing Kevin Carter this year. Hopefully our Dline will be just as good or better.

It's our DBs that I'm still concerned about ....

It is a fairly good set, but if this was how our 5 wide set were to stick, look for Booker to be gone definately. No way RM pays Booker 4 million to be a 5th WR

Look how we struggled against the Jaguars last season.... we flat out struggled against tall recievers. I hope now that the defense isn't so complicated with Saban gone...that things will be better and not nearly as many breakdowns.
If we control the clock with Ronnie running over them and our offensive line playing great in run/pass protection...get them on a few 3 and outs.....the game is ours....regardless if its away or home
I believe the 4 times Brady has been held under78 yds passing, all have come against the Dolphins. Knowing Joey Porter has had success against them brings even more confidence to our defense! I can't wait...bring it on!

You worry to much, Moss is a cancer who will destroy Patsie team chemistry, Welker, as we all know, is an overachiever who scored all of two receiving touchdowns last year. Stallworth is an injury waiting to happen.

Actually, I think the Patsies looked very desperate this off-season, it reminded me of the Shula's last team.

The only reason i don't see him being cut is because he was the most reliable receiver not names Wes Welker. I do however see him being traded to a team that is ready to compete immediately that needs WR help if the offer is right. The Titans would be a good example. Pretty good defense with some young talent on the offensive side of the ball. A veteran could make them a decent receiving core along with Givens and Bo Scaffe.

I think the secondary will be much-improved from last seasons. Daniels is finally healthy, Jason Allen could surprise a lot of people. Lack of depth at Safety is a concern as is the health of Andre' Goodman. But a simplified scheme should have the entire secondary commiting fewer breakdowns in coverage. As for our front-seven, they are deep and have the players to line up in odd places confusing QBs into hopefully throwing many more INT than they did vs. us last season.

I hope you're right. After Brady and the Patsies managed to beat the Pro Bowl loaded Chargers in the playoffs in San Diego last year with very average receivers it makes you sit up and think ... what the hell can friggin Brady do with tall, super fast receivers like Moss ... and Stallworth ... and super quick Wes, who has a knack for getting open.

Wes is a crafty guy. I wouldn't underestimate him. He's probably working like crazy up in New England trying to make it big with the almighty Patriots. He might be trying to get himself a supermodel like Brady did or something. :D

Everyone says Wes is a hard worker. He had to work twice as hard as everyone else just to get this far in the NFL. That's why he was one of my favorite players last year. I remember Kevin Carter saying the same thing ... watch out for Wes Welker.

The titans would seem very logical as would Jags. I think the titans would be stupid not to try to pick him up if we seriously put him back on the trading block. Givens is out for what looks like the entire year and he really was the only reciever they had.

i am not really worid about moss he doesnt like to run routes he like to just run down the field

you better believe that we should be afraid of new england this year

i hate them, brady, belicheck more than anyone, BUT

we simply will not be able to cover moss. there are only a few receivers in the league like him and we have been lucky not to play many of them....

keep in mind while in oakland moss was being covered (in the division) by Champ Baily, Patrick Surtain and Quientin Jammer.... Baily and Surtain being 2 of the top 5 in the league.

You think Will Allen is going to cover Moss???

Since we lost Surtain and have yet to bring a legit #1 Corner we've actually been VERY lucky not to play too many teams with big play making receivers. However the decent receivers that we did play put up pretty big games against us.

2005 - Steve Smith 11 rec 170 yds 3 tds
Braylon Edwards 6 rec 90yds
Joey Galloway 9 rec 96 yds 1 td

2006 - Roy Williams 6 rec 126yds
Donald Driver 10 rec 93 1 td
Andre Johnson 9rec 101 1 td

this year we weren't given such a nice schedule of receivers

week 1 - santana moss
week 2 - terrell owens
week 3 - lauvernious coles

week 5 - andre johnson

week 6 - braylon edwards

week 7 - randy moss
week 8 - plaxico burress

week 12 - hines ward

week 13 - lauvernious coles

week 15 - randy moss
week 16 - chad johnson

I think our secondary is one of our biggest concerns right behind the o-line...

This biggest blessing for this team would be if Jason Allen developed into a legi corner..... THAT is something that could turn our team around into a playoff team believe it or not.... If we had a legit Corner we'd be really recognized as a top defense...
