everyone is so ready to give up on John Beck. It just doesnt make any sense to me at all. One of the biggest knocks on him is he is 26 and not 22. Big freakin deal, he's still only played 4 years of college football just like everyone else. Its not like he's been getting knocked around for 4 extra years then the rest of the 2nd year guys. If anything, and Beck pans out, then he should be able to play a few years longer (in age) then some of the other guys.
And then the other big knock on him is he didnt play outstanding last season in the 5 games he played. He only played in 5 games! (And one was a mud pit with a final score of 3-0) Did Peyton Manning look like a pro bowl QB in his 5th game of his rookie season? I dont think so. Not too mention he had ABSOLUTELY NO HELP AROUND HIM. He had a rookie receiver and a vet receiver who cant catch. In the backfield he had our 3rd string RB who has never started a game before last season his whole career. And if all that wasnt bad enough his offensive line was absolutely terrible! Only 2 guys will be starting this season from last year. No QB can produce without some production up front!
Now I know we signed McCown in the offseason, which was a great move because we had to have a veteran QB on the roster to help teach and incase of injury. Then we drafted Chad Henne which was probably a good idea as well (even though i'm not a big fan of him) because we can let him sit for awhile and develop for cheap (since he was draft at #57) and if Beck doesnt pan out let him take over with a full understanding of the offense and if Beck does pan out you can never have enough young QB's, could even be used as trade bait in years to come.
Now all that I ask is for everyone to give Beck a chance. We have to completely see what we have before we all give up hope on him. He deserves a fair shot at the starting job with some Pro Football talent around him which he definitely didnt have last season.
Thanks and Go Fins!
