everyone is so ready to give up on John Beck. It just doesnt make any sense to me at all. One of the biggest knocks on him is he is 26 and not 22. Big freakin deal, he's still only played 4 years of college football just like everyone else. Its not like he's been getting knocked around for 4 extra years then the rest of the 2nd year guys. If anything, and Beck pans out, then he should be able to play a few years longer (in age) then some of the other guys.

And then the other big knock on him is he didnt play outstanding last season in the 5 games he played. He only played in 5 games! (And one was a mud pit with a final score of 3-0) Did Peyton Manning look like a pro bowl QB in his 5th game of his rookie season? I dont think so. Not too mention he had ABSOLUTELY NO HELP AROUND HIM. He had a rookie receiver and a vet receiver who cant catch. In the backfield he had our 3rd string RB who has never started a game before last season his whole career. And if all that wasnt bad enough his offensive line was absolutely terrible! Only 2 guys will be starting this season from last year. No QB can produce without some production up front!

Now I know we signed McCown in the offseason, which was a great move because we had to have a veteran QB on the roster to help teach and incase of injury. Then we drafted Chad Henne which was probably a good idea as well (even though i'm not a big fan of him) because we can let him sit for awhile and develop for cheap (since he was draft at #57) and if Beck doesnt pan out let him take over with a full understanding of the offense and if Beck does pan out you can never have enough young QB's, could even be used as trade bait in years to come.

Now all that I ask is for everyone to give Beck a chance. We have to completely see what we have before we all give up hope on him. He deserves a fair shot at the starting job with some Pro Football talent around him which he definitely didnt have last season.

Thanks and Go Fins!

I agree with you.I admit I wasn't high on Beck on draft day;the cheap, sleazy allure of Brady Quinn was clouding my judgement.
He didn't get a whole lot of support last year either from his team or the fans and I think that may have made some people think he wasn't a very good quarterback.I don't think that's fair,CamSham screwed up any chance Beck had by not doing anything about the O line.JB never had any time to make great plays because he was too busy running from defensive ends that wanted to kill him.
With an improved O line I think we will see a newer, more confident John Beck and I still think the starting quarterback job is anyone's to take.

Because the Beck haters do not fully understand that players need to do something that is called "preparation" (In other words, practice) before going into games... This term known as "preparation" was something that Cam did not allow Beck to adequately do prior to Cam giving Beck the starting nod.. This ultimately put Beck in a position to fail...

This simple philosophy of practice and game time preparation is what the haters do not fully understand

everyone gets caught up with those fumbles too... thats all they want to remember... like no QB has ever fumbled before, or ****ed up a throw where the ball slipped out of their hands... cmon

At least I know i'm not the only one who feels this way.

Thank you! Let the guys battle it out in mini-camps and camp/pre-season.... if the worst case ends up being we have two or three very good quarterbacks, so be it! I just hope none of them turn into a Ray Lucas who I believe is still locked up in somebody's basement?

The reason Beck haters, well hate him and are ready to write him off is because he wasn't a Manning or Brady after 1 game or after 4 either. Such a shame.

I dont hate beck or wanna throw him out, I just think Henne is a better prospect. Hell if Beck outplays him fine, If McCown is the starter Im fine. As long as the man that plays the best is the starter i have no problem. Now if somebody plays like beck did as a rookie, lets try someone else. Even if one of these guys fails once, I will not write any of them off because they all deserve a chance to compete for the job. I do on the other hand think the most pressure is on beck and if he does not win the job, may never get another chance. Henne is clearly the choice of the future but funny how that can change with good qb play. i would still be willing to bet that at some point Brady Quinn is the Qb of the Browns.

The reason some are haters on Beck is because

The QB position is the most visible. A good team will make an average QB look good, and a good QB look awesome.

A poor team will look poor, and make average or good QBs look like clowns.

Everyone bags JB for the fumble that went for a td last year, but no-one bashes the linemen for letting the d come through on a dead sprint untouched.

Team should be better this year, and JB will look good, just watch.

How can you say that ?

Beck threw for more yards, more TD's, less Int, Better Effiency rating, Stronger arm, quicker release, Higher score in the wonderlic, Got drafted higher and yet you say Henne is a better prospect. Whatever dude. You're so freaking blind..

How am I blind because I think Chad Henne is a better NFL prospect than John Beck, Im pretty sure that some NFL scouts believe both ways so why is it so impossible for me to see that. I dont care about thier college stats on the whole because playing the MWC week in and week out is not the big 10 and the BYU system lends itsself to qb's having better stats. Apples and oranges. If I go by stats then Brennan should have been the first qb taken.
As for wonderlic there is very little evidence that a higher wonderlic makes a better qb.Alex Smith smokes beck and Henne on the wonderlic. Also draft position is relative to the year they are drafted in. You cannot say where henne would have went last year or where beck would go this year. Two totally differant drafts. Was Ronnie Brown a better prospect than MacPherson because he was drafted higher?

What make you think Henne is a better prospect than? What's your qualifying triggers to determine a good prospect? What do you go by. It's funny before Henne got drafted it was Ryan this, Ryan that. Now, it's Henne this Henne, that! I respect your opinion trust me you always make valid points. I just wanted to know what has Henne accomplished that would make you say he's a better prospect than Beck that all. Are you just saying despite Beck having better statistics than Henne, you ignore that and your gut tells you he's still better..Now, this whole which conference he plays in, what conference is Appalachian St in ?

Ive been trying to tell people forever that age is different than football age. He spent 4 years on a missionary, which last time I checked didnt have too many blitzing linebackers.

I feel that John Beck will be our starting QB come week 1. When i look back at the game when Bill Parcells was in the sky box looking down Wolfe and he saw some good plays out of Beck..John showed poise in that game and i think Bill saw that he young man could produce. I am a firm believer that John Beck didnt throw 5000 balls this off season jus to have a chance to compete...dont be confused by the additions and draft Beck is the front runner to at QB.

May i jus add how Ireland has repeatedly stated how high they had John Beck rated the year he came out...do you think the belief they had in the young man a year ago has changed that much because of 5 games with a 1-15 team around him as a rookie?
