and I don't think what he said at the end of the press conference about this season was a big deal. It's the truth, whether we like it or not. The rest of the year isnt about wins and losses, it's about evaluating the talent that is here and determining who can and can't be here next year. I actually give him props for being honest and not sugar-coating it like alot of coaches do.

I believe he's building a team from the ground up, not because he wants to, but more because he has too. Unfortunately, this is gonna be a game of patience for us fans.

hehe people on here were saying that he was sugarcoating too much and wasn't a hard *** coach and this and that.

well he basically just laid it all out....he said what alot of us already knew all along...that this year isn't about how many wins we get (although that is nice) but MORE about the players on this team and how they execeute and go about things.

i been saying it for 6 weeks now....also miami's problems in the past when they had competing teams is maybe they were focusing TOO much on the wins, and overlooking the process and how they got to where they were....like when we needed one win outta the last 4 games and couldn't come up with it..

anyways, saban's the man as far as im concerned

The problem is....we just found out about what Saban already knew and was doing since pre-season.

Thats true but you CANT say that!!! How can you expect your players, particularly the vets, to play hard if you tell them it does not matter. MOreover how can you evaluate tallent if you have players that are not playing at 100% because you told them it does not matter. He was frustrated got a little too frank with the media, thus the "retraction."

i think he was trying to win since pre-season. but now with only 3 wins, the season is over, and he needs to evaluate his players and the backups to see who will stay.

After looking at the game planning...I don't know how anyone could say this team was really trying to win each week. I'm not blaming the players...well most of them....you have to place blame at Saban's feet.

maybe YOU just found out :rofl3:

if you watch the press conferences since his hiring its not rocket science when all he preaches the whole time is focusing on process and execution, dont focus on the scoreboard...points will come through properly perfecting each player's position.

its a process of achieving greatness, not instant gratification.

Up until the loss to the Pats we had a chance so I think you're right.

well i agree with this but i don't think he was gonna risk anything to gain a win this year

guys hes not saying he doesn' twant to win... what hes saying is hes evaluating our players not on if we win or lose, but how they play... its ont about the score or our record... if we win but gus throws 6 picks, but we win because of special teams, its obviously a horrible performance for gus and that needs to be address, regardless that we won...

just like we got killed this sunday, but the run game was working well, especially ricky, so that part of our game was good regardless of the fact we loss...

hes not saying he doesn't want to win... hes saying it doesn't matter if we win in evaluating the players we have...

jesus

I think he should have left it alone and not called the media to try and explain himself. This made him look like more of a fool. (not saying he is a fool) He should say what he wants and go with it regardless of what the fans and media think of him. Screw it, this is HIS organization (doesn't he have all/most of the control). Why apologize for what you beleive in ("the process"). my opinion of course.

And Saban clarified this with his follow-up conversation with the reporters as stated in the Miami Herald.

I think in this case, there were so many people that took it the wrong way that it was necessary to clarify his statements. Normally, I think Saban could care less. But, this was obviously a statement that could be misconstrued as him quitting on the season -- thus presenting the question to the players, why should they continue?

Or ... it could just simply be to address all of the threads on FinHeaven! I'm sure he reads and is sympathetic to the fans here.

100% agree. We fans have to be patient. How many times during the Wanny era did we hear "from that standpoint we need to win now". I for one am tired of that attitude. My view is if this years team can't win the title then look to the future. If it takes a couple of crappy seasons so be it. I am a life long fan, and I plan on living for several more years. Let's build this team for long term success not short term gratifaction. Atleast that is my "standpoint"

If the vets can't play hard for the love of the game or the money they make then I don't want them on the team. It's a great way to find out who has heart and does not.
