NFL | One general manager says lack of CBA will cause "Bloody Thursday"
Tue, 28 Feb 2006 17:53:23 -0800
Updating previous reports, <A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/17">Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the break down in negotiations over a new collective bargaining could cause what one general manager called "Bloody Thursday." With the projected salary cap expected to fall between $95 million to $96 million, some big-name players might get released by Thursday, March 2, as teams comply with the salary cap. An AFC team executive said, "In past years, you'd see a lot of guys released who maybe still had some name value, but who were really in decline in terms of production. This year? People are going to be stunned -- not just by the quantity of players who are cut by Thursday, but by the quality, too. It's going to be ugly. There's going to be blood in the streets and, compared to past years, it's going to be from some bluebloods, guys who can still play."

NFL | Emergency owners meeting called for early Thursday
Tue, 28 Feb 2006 17:52:51 -0800
<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/14">Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports an emergency owners meeting has been called for Thursday, March 2, at 8:30 a.m. in New York. If there are any signs of progress in the CBA talks, there is a chance the start of the free agent period will be delayed. If the talks break down again, several high-profile veteran profiles could get cut Friday, March 3, as teams comply with the salary cap.

I think this is to our advantage cus the biggest name we have to cut is McCintosh. Madison could be another because this gives Saban the out to cut him and not take any slack from it.

it will hurt our chances to improve our roster significantly

this would be to no one's advantage.

These are 3 possible reprocussions:

1) No players will sign more than a 1 year deal anywhere, because.............

2) No salary cap 2007, maybe ever (who will be the first owner to rename his franchise to the Yankees??)

3) Lockout in 2008.

Sounds GREAT!!!!! Why do people fail to see the big picture?? :shakeno:

If I'm not mistaken, if a deal isn't reached doesn't this also lessen the chances of us signing Drew Brees?

I don't think they change THAT much..........at that point every team will have the same struggles with dealing with the new scenarios. We will have almost 6 million in cap room (not including NLTBE bonuses) just by cutting Howard, Jones, Seau and McIntosh. I'm sure that Saban may make more cuts as well, especially since there will be so many more quality FA out there when other teams make their cuts. Also, if we were to sign Brees, then we could also jettison Frerotte and save over 4 million.

But I don't even think that a Drew Brees signing could cheer me up if the league continues down this road to disaster.

I don't think so. There is going to be a flood of talent to hit the streets when the cuts come down the line on all the teams.

If we wait we may be able to pick up Tom Brady or Peyton Manning after they are cut....:sidelol:
