I know Im probably not the first to post this but last night was the first tim ei could watch the "In their Own Words: Dan marino". I DVRed it finally watched it last night.

How great was that show! i miss him i really do. I love the part where he throws the pass at the HOF, i was there it was incredible. That was a great weekend. Anyone go to the fairgrounds where they had all that Jack daniels bbq and local bbq and stuff? yum.

how graceful was marino in the pocket? best ever to play the game. anyone who hasnt seen it i suggest they find a way to watch it. anyone have upcoming schedules that will have the time it will play again?

one thing that upsets me was that i wasn't alive, or i was an infant during marinos prime. I was born in 88, and i didn't really understand football until 93', so i never got to see marino as the superstar who just flung the ball around with such ease. Looking at old games and shows like that, well i can only say "wow, it must have really been something to watch him play." Like it was for all of us to watch Jordan in the NBA, Marino was the same in the NFL.

Yeah I was born in '87 and am in that same posistion as you. I did have a Marino jersey by 4th grade however and I used to wear it during my intermeral football games in elementary. I was a star and I thought I was Dan playing out there. Great memories, but yeah I'm just glad I got the oppertunity to see him play period. The thing I most distinctly remember was the 1999 playoffs when we came back to beat Seattle as Dan lead us from behind. Of course that was turned to a sour note when we got embarrassed 62-7 by Jacksonville the following week. What a bad way to retire.:(

I just watched it today myself. You younger guys, I want you take time when you watch that and make sure you watch how fast he could get rid of the ball. I'm still amazed how little range of motion his arm takes while launching a rocket downfield. It's absolutely amazing. Man I miss seeing him throw.

i am from HONDURAS, that's in central america if some of you dont know where that is...lol... and although i a m just 24, i remember wathching marino play as a kid, and just seeing him throw, and how incredible he was, made me a dolphin fan by age 8, marino is the reason i even started watching football, he is the reason i am a dophan for life....if it wasnt for dan i would probably just watch soccer like everyone else in my country...damn i do love that pigskin! THANKS DAN

Yeah that was awesome, i never got to see him play because ive only been into football for three years. I started loving the fins with jay fiedler as QB :boohoo: , so this will be the first season i get to see a elite QB under center.:D

You are so right!!! The other aspect of his game I loved was his ability to avoid the rush by moving within the pocket. He was heavily critized for being slow and not a running QB, but he rarely took a sack. I think that was the most underrated part of his game. As good as his stats are I wonder how many times he took an incompletion vs. a sack by taking a step or two to avoid the rush and then getting rid of the ball. Of course, at other times he would throw a completion after avoiding the sack. It was such a beautiful thing to watch...

While the throwing ability was an amazing part of Marino's game.

The youngsters out there should also pay attention to his ability to sidestep defenders while under pressure. Danny didn't scare anyone obviously with his scrambling abilities but the man had extremely quick feet.

That portion of his style is often overlooked.

Ahhhhh! :fire:
You guys know where exactly where I'm coming from then. I watch Marino highlights now and just let my jaw hit the ground seeing him make play after play, but I never got to see or appreciate his career while he was young.

I being in in my late 20's remember Marino from pretty much the start of his NFL career. Don't remember much about 83, my first memories of him were in 84 when I was about 7 years old. I have never seen a player past or present that was simply great from the very start of his career.

I still remember that game where he picked apart what was probably the best ever defensive unit ever put together in the 85 bears. The people that are younger should take a look at some of those games from 84 - 88 and watch the master at work in his prime. He was simply unbelievable to say the least. Nobody threw a better pass than him, and his ability to read defenses was just as amazing. They had no answer for him, he drove defensive coordinators nuts. I think he was still great up until Shula retired, thats when Johnson came in, and with Johnsons conservative system, paired with more injuries, is when his career started to decline.
