.. an offensive line that has allowed eight sacks and a secondary that has allowed 554 passing yards in two games is troublesome. What do you all think about this? Anderson doesn't seem to be doing the job on the OL and Allen and Allen don't seem to be getting it done in the secondary. Yeah yeah yeah, it's preseason, but these guys are supposed to be starting when the regular season begins. We won't make the playoffs if this situation isn't corrected. I see Anderson losing his starting job and I'm not sure what the answer is for our injured and inexperienced secondary.:(

Anderson had a couple of false start penalties but I'll offer two different observations. The first is that the o-line was going on a silent snap count, that takes a little bit of adjustment and to a player who is new to an offense can be difficult. Also if you saw the game in the Tampa market you heard Jaworski observe that Rex Hadnot was not snapping the ball on time at certain points. This also tends to cause false starts. So let's not jump on Bennie Anderson too much just yet. I admit I was a little alarmed at first too, but I thought they settled down nicely and especially when you factor in the silent count and Hadnot still picking up playing center, I'll chalk it up to growing pains.

As for the secondary, that's going to be a weakness all year. I think it will get better, but face it we're spoiled. All of us are used to Madison, Surtain, Marion and Knight/Walker. That's a pretty tough act to follow. I think Jason Allen will be fine once he gets his confidence, Will Allen catches too much flak as is and the rest of the secondary will eventually gel and become serviceable. I wouldn't freak out too much over two preseason games where a bunch of reserves who may not even make the team got torched by David Garrard and Bruce Gradkowski.

I'm not worried about the false start penalties, just the fact that Anderson looked like a turnstyle....

also, I think you are right about the secondary, that used to be the strength of the defense and now it looks like the weak link. Not the weak link we need when facing Brady and Co.

I'm still not worried about Anderson. He's new to the blocking scheme and he's also missed to time in camp due to injuries. I also think that once you've had a few false starts you begin to concentrate on not jumping early, which more often than not means you get off the line late. That never helps when you're blocking a DT or an end.

I hope you are right. Houck did a great job last year, so the Jury's not out yet. Also, why would Mularkey bring Anderson over if he was a scrub? I would think he had some input in that decision. The OL did look fairly solid in the running game.

All I can say is that Our Secondary is the only position we lack at!!

There all young noone has over 6 7 years experience except for Will Allen mabey!!

Its to bad ty LAw couldnt get signed here!!

Two lousy preseason games and already the sky is falling, relax dude, take a valium. Smoke some of Ricky's stash, then see how you feel.

Folks - this is what preseason is all about! Every team has new people and areas they are trying to upgrade and fit new players in. There will be mistakes. That's why the games are important.

With the OL: The Dolphins have two new linemen (Anderson and Shelton); both are in new systems and Anderson missed a lot early in TC. Then, you also have a new QB and Hadnot is still learning the center position. The other variable is the time the entire line will need to work together as a unit. So, we should expect a relatively slow start with all the new parts. No worries.

With the Secondary: The same thing. We have several new players. They have to learn a very complex defensive scheme; They have to learn each other; and, some, like Allen, have to learn how to play. Again, this all means a relatively slow start.

Last year, the OL looked horrific early on. But they gradually began to gel. THis year, they have more experience and better talent.

Anderson was going against McFarland.

It is not like these people are playing in a bubble. They are playing against two of the better defensive lines in the game. There are bound to be some problems in the preseason.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the first team secondary hasn't allowed squat...its the second and third teamers that are getting toasted.

As far as the O-Line...I too was worried until I heard about the silent count thing. Anderson has barely participated in camp...he'll be fine.

I can't believe you are quoting stats from thet 2 pre-season games. Would it make you feel better if I told you the starters on D have only given up 3 points and only 1 drive of more than 3 plays?

Anderson doesn't seem to be doing the job on the OL

Relax, you're making a judgement from a tough quater in the pre-season in the 1st road game. Isn't this what the preseason os for? Saban said it was the 1st time the team tried a silent count. That takes some practice, that's what preseason's for.

I'm not sure what the answer is for our injured and inexperienced secondary

How about we let the rookie get some experience and give TD time to get back on field? Remember no team is in midseason form right now, it's PRESEASON.

I think you answered your own concern with your subject line.

Also, if you watch the game again, count how many times we blitz or change the look of the defense. Very vanilla right now and I believe that's by design. We're not going to give any team study material for the regular season. Remember, we have a very smart coaching staff and they know what they're doing. No worries.

Go look at how we played last preseason... Then, look at our regular season numbers. Specifically, do you remember how we looked offensively? Did we look a little better against Denver? The schemes we are running right now are as basic as you can get, much like last year.

Also, why the hate on Will Allen? The first team defense has been excellent, and yet I see many posters commenting on how Will has been playing poorly. He seems like the guy that is easy to pick on, for some reason. As for Jason Allen, he is a rookie learning two positions. The kid has the physical tools, he will be fine.
