I was watching the Chargers game again today. I know we had no sacks yesterday, but this had a lot to do with Gus moving out of the pocket and still making plays as well as using McMichael and/or a back as a blocker. This is why McMichael's catches have been down this season, but damn...he's turning into a really good pass and run blocker! If we had a great LT as an anchor and our other linemen had better feet, we'd need less blockers and this would open up both our passing and our running game.

In summary, we still need to upgrade our o line in the offseason. This would improve our offense tremendously. I think this is a top-3 priority; even drafting a LT in the first round if its the BPA is not a bad idea. Imagine what Houck could do with great talent!

Edit: I still say Carey is an ideal RG. Not being very mobile, Carey could worry less about the outside pass rush and harness his best asset--his power.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Dolphins draft at least one offensive line player.

Always remember that everything tends to retreat to the beginning. You can't pretend band aids are enough. Before the season it was said by Rob Konrad and others that you need two dominant linemen and the Dolphins have none. Now, what has changed in that regard?

Our OL looks fine now, since expectations have been low and we've played many soft run defenses. Next year if we aspire to the playoffs the weaknesses in our OL personnel will be exposed, and often, if we continue with the same group.

I just said the same thing on another thread.

Really believe that if we can upgrade our OL this will improve our offense ten fold. First we would be able to block better for the run game but also we would not always have to keep players in to help block. Randy would get to run free and open up the seams of the D. This would make our Qb, who ever that will be, look much better, If we can get a top notch talent at LT in the 1st round I think we take that player. I truly believe in BPA so if there is someone who is more valuable then take that player. I think replacing McIntosh with a stud would be awesome. One player on the line who is stud creates so much space and allows for the offense to spread out its options and still be successful. The otehr player we need is a playmaker in the secondary. Madison and Daniels aren't really ballhawks. I like the way they've improved their play but we need a player who chagnes games regularly, like D'angelo Hall or Ty Law. We have tons of holes but i think with a first round talent at one of these positions we can really help our team out. I would not be upset with a OLB or DT, just feel that with the rest of our team OL and DBs are the biggest need, of course a great QB but they aren't just falling off trees.

You bring up some good points that are often overlooked. This line's success is primarily due to:

1) Hudson Houck - The best line coach in the NFL
2) Gus Frerrote - A QB with great pocket awareness and very cool under pressure
3) Randy McMichael - He's having a great season as a blocker, but it has definetely affected his pass catching and our entire receiving corps.
4) To a lesser extent, Ronnie and Ricky are good blockers as well

Vernon Carey seems like a better LT, because of his pass blocking skills, and don't forget he's still learning.

As far as our run blocking, our new FB has been awesome and Ronnie and Ricky are great RB's. McMichael has also been a very solid run blocker.

The point is that we've been getting it done with smoke and mirrors this year and we absolutely need at least one Pro Bowl quality linemen added next year.

Amen, bro.

I still have questions about Carey's feet though.

Yeah, let's keep him on the Right side and draft a Great LT in the 1st or 2nd. For some reason Marcus MacNeil has been dropping on peoples draft boards, he hasn't given up a sack in three years. That is ridiculous when you think of all the great DE in the SEC. If we could steal him in the 2nd or even late 1st, depending on our finish, I would like that, he's huge. I do believe that the scouts know ten times as much as me and will trust there judgements on MacNeil. I would love to upgrade the OL with a stud LT. I believe this would pay immediete dividends.

I'm glad people don't think I'm in left field...I don't get to watch the fins very often, living in Massachusetts, but it's just so obvious that our oline is a weak leak on our offense.

Nice post. I agree

Defintely not left field. That one player changes the way we scheme in blocking, running patterns. One player isn't the entire answer but if we have a solid LT it allows TEs runnign free, backs can release from the backfield and we still have time to throw to these players. With the talent we have on offense, this would allow us to create matchup problems all over the field. It would be beautiful.

I agree with your post your make good points and I think OL should be improved and that should be our first priority on offense if Gus keeps playing like he did Sunday!

We'll get to see just how good Seth has been this year since he might miss the rest of the season.........

good point. This actually is a good think since our number one priority this season still is to evaluate...

I hope Saban never stops evaluating. As for Seth, it means we get a look at Ephrim, I know I spelled it wrong, but they need to know exactly where to fill holes next season, starters and backups.
