I like Ireland. | Page 3 | FinHeaven - Miami Dolphins Forums

I like Ireland.

They make a couple of plays, but they are not game changing players. I'm not saying everybody needs to be in the Pro Bowl, but we lack that one leader and game changer. We don't have someone like Megatron on this team who will make an amazing catch with 3 people covering him. Bush and Wake are those type of players, but we didn't draft them.

Long is a top 5, if not the best LT in the game, but they don't win games. They help win games, but you can do without it.

lol He is special tho. Ireland has only had 1 top 10 pick in his time here. How many did it take the Lions to get Megatron? Stafford changes the ballgame too.

You always want to build through the draft, but doesnt mean you cant use free agency too. Losing Marshall is a minor setback, theres no sugar coating that. Chad Henne was a major setback. Everyone knows thats a risk when drafting a QB.

You can do without every position if you have a Great QB.

They wanted Jeff Fisher, who fits with Ireland's philosophy more, but Philbin forces him to change his philosophy. At this point, they need to sell to the fans that we're going to do it right this time. Making a big move like trading up, drafting a QB, or just getting a play maker will go a long way in making the fans more optimistic about the future. All we can do at this point is hope that Ireland hits a home run in the draft. There's no other way to sell tickets at this point.

As for Hartline, I think he's a good WR and will probably be that guy who makes the clutch catch in the SB. However, as much as I like Hartline, he's not a #1 WR type of play maker. We need one.

My biggest problem with Ireland is that his P/R skills suck. He keeps everything a secret. He needs to keep the fans better informed more or we're going to assume the worse. The fans have no clue what's going on half the time. They need to stop promising to make a splash in FA if they aren't going to. This isn't 1986. We can all communicate with each other a lot easier. We can question his moves a lot easier.

I agree with every word. We definately need to hit in this draft...preferably QB!!! As much as people may hate to hear this....once again Irelands slate gets cleaned up a little. First ties cut with Parcells, now with Sparano. The last man standing, why? Because this team has talent.

We draft a QB this year it gives Ireland another 2-3 years atleast. If we dont draft a QB in the Top 3 rounds and a QB doesnt look promising...he better pray he hits on a "legit" playmaker, as you hold your standards.

Blast me!!!!

I like the fact he has BALLS. Goes after what he wants and at the same time wont overpay for just anyone. Yet will cut you quick if you dont perform. We still have more talent on this team now then we have had in 10 years. What is this year 4? Im still with him. Henne didnt work out. Lets try again. QB makes everyone look better. When you dont have a QB, you need a coach. Sparano/Henne didnt have the will to score TD's. Ireland has provided a solid team minus a few spots.

Guys like Vontae Davis who is very good, yet still shows potential to become even better.

Dansby who is underrated around the internet world.

Reggie Bush who appears to be hitting his prime.

Jared Odrick 1st round pick injured year 1, yr 2 rotates and looks promising.

Keeping Solia from the previous regime and has turned into a stud.

Wake from CFL TOP 5 pass rusher.

Jake Long

Mike Pouncey looked impressive....altho I still worry about fumbled snaps. Not sure if that was Moore or Pouncey.

Sean Smith still has tons of potential. As long as he keeps his head straight he will be fine. How hard he works will go into how good he can become.

Charles Clay looked very good when the oppurunities were there.

I could keep goin with very good pieces on this team. Talent is here and I feel comfortable giving Ireland more shots to find the QB. We will find out if Philbin has it.

Many non Dolphin fans told me last year, man they got a good team. Henne/Sparano wasnt the guys to lead the team. I trust Ireland to find the ones.

Ireland keeps it real. He just dont like talking about it to the media.

Aww ****. You homer. You what..

Well of course, but that doesn't mean you overspend on players like Dansby. I mean they've made some really poor signings in FA that usually leave the fans scratching their heads. Even this offseason has everyone upset. The point is Ireland needs to do a lot of stuff in order to restore his image. At this point, it's hard to be optimistic that Ireland will hit a home run in the draft.

I really dont think we overpaid Dansby. He is a very good LB and a playmaker.

As far as hitting a home run this year. We will see. He has a top 10 pick and probaly the most ammo he has had to work with.

He's a good LB, but not the highest paid LB in the NFL good.

Is he number 1 LB in the league? No...but thats what happens when you go after a Top 5 LB arguably in free agency, you overpay a bit. Definately isnt a bad signing.

I think we agree on the basic view of this team. Its time for a GREAT draft and not just a GOOD one. Im tired of regime changes every couple years. We need some consistency. Jimmy Johnson is the last thing even close to Ireland. Jimmy with an edge cuz we know how the careers of Taylor, Thomas, Madison, and Surtain turned out.

Davis, Long, Odrick, Pouncey have that potential.

I think we need to draft 4 playmakers with the first four picks. If tannehill is not there then trade down for an extra 2 or 3. there are lots of WRs and some pass rushers to choose from. Less to choose from in the other playmaker positions so he should be careful about using the value chart. During previous drafts that cost him Gronkowski and J Graham (who he was projecting but did not get) when he was looking for TEs and waited too long leaving us with late 6th round TEs we ended up cutting. Dont wait for playmakers if you know they are very good and will help the phins.

the problem with your argument is the fact that since this team went 11-5 in 08 we have steadily regressed under Irelands watch, he is too conservative and has adopted that philosphy from parcells, he likes to play it "safe", instead of taking matt ryan we went with long, we took pouncy over ingram, he took misi right before gronk was taken, he traded down and took odrick when he could of stayed and got pierre paul who is a straight monster, he took vontae davis and the very next pick was clay matthews, he took pat white and lesean mccoy was taken only a few picks later, missed on jimmy graham, jacoby ford, ed dickson, he plays it too safe and his ability to identify talent and playmakers is poor, yes he added some solid guys but we should be much farther along than we are right now, and lets not forget eric green, wilford, smiley, gibril wilson, those were all ireland/parecells moves, too many misses for me sorry

First if you can't see the good things Ireland has done, you just aren't looking. As to your post on a lot of these picks Parcells had the final say so we really don't know who is resposible. Also there isn't a GM out there that doesn't have a miss or bust on his resume. They all do. If you look at Irelands last draft where we know he had the final say...it was his best. It is a very good draft.

I cant believe Daniel Clay gets no love. He looks like a steal and should fit really well in the new offense.

Gates will looked ready to bust a KR for a TD towards the end of the year. Get him open and he is FAST! Still has a chance.

Daniel Thomas had his moments in a couple of games. We knew he was raw at the RB position. He looked comfortable on screens.

When I joined this site years ago I was baffled at the hype toward our mediocre players. They would be mentioned in sigs, and listed in various posts, despite being ordinary or slightly above. In 7 years the names have changed but not the trend.

If you want to be considered 30% better than you really are, find a way onto the Miami Dolphins' roster.

Regarding Jeff Ireland, I don't have much respect for anyone in a position like that who disdains the media and is so inept whenever he ventures. There's no benefit whatsoever. In Miami it's particularly ridiculous and harmful considering all the hurdles, like a pathetic stadium and so much competition for the entertainment dollar.

I think those of us who remember the early days of the franchise have a decided advantage on a topic like this. The Dolphins were always a fan friendly organization that had a sense of humor toward itself. In the late '60s the team was in the midst of a dreadful year and the Dolphins spotlighted a game against Buffalo as "Victory Sunday." In other words, hey we might actually win this one, so come out to the Orange Bowl and enjoy it. The plan worked, the team won, and it garnered quite a bit of positive publicity.

When Don Shula was approached about the coaching vacancy that's the type of reputation the Dolphins had. I can only imagine a modern day Shula contacted about the Miami vacancy (or potential vacancy) with Ross and Ireland at the helm. Never mind.

When the franchise does make a move it's desperate and jeopardizes a segment of the fan base, like the brilliant Gator Day. I literally jumped off my couch as soon as Mike Dee and Nat Moore announced that brainstorm, during the preseason telecast. I posted a thread on a Canes forum on Rivals.com within minutes.

The comparisons to other franchises and bigshots who shunned the media are not valid. Parcells late in his career came to fancy an antagonist relationship with the media, almost as a substitute for on-field success. He was anything but poor with the media and used them well when he had to early in his career. Likewise, Belichick gave some terrific interviews early in his career, answering questions that hadn't even been asked to add perspective, but now after three rings he obviously enjoys the quirky hooded reputation, and quick non-answers like, "They made more plays than we did." It borders on tongue in cheek and the Patriots in this era don't need a coach to attract fans or ticket buyers. Watch Belichick a week after the Super Bowl and he's grinning and wisecracking with Jim Nantz and Nick Faldo at Pebble Beach. Put Ireland on that course and he'd be as bumbling as ever, every bit as nervous as the Philbin introductory press conference.

No different than our stadium decades from now, once Ireland is replaced the apologists will quickly look very foolish.

Joe Robbie was a total cheapskate. He lowballed players all the time. To the point chasing away zonka and a few others.
Every team has ups and downs. Ours have been from aholes like Sabin(satan) @##$% us over. Ricky Williams Dope habit.
Yatil Green blowing acl's two years in a row. Wannstache and three yards and a cloud of dust. Tedd Ginn and his family. If you think Ireland is bad Do you remember Rick Speilman? This team has had terrible luck. The stupid Fans chased Shula away so imho we got what we deserved.

can't believe you compared dumb ireland to a gm that built a team that won 3 superbowls .
