He new a winner when he saw one.
If it wasn't for Joe Robbie....Marino probably would've never been a Dolphin in the first place...
Robbie knew football....he used to actually sit down with Shula and interview quarterbacks...
Huizenga? Throwing a bunch of money around isn't what makes you a good owner.....it's just makes you a very rich man that owns a football team that throws money around....
Surrounding yourself with FOOTBALL people and winning championships is what makes you a good owner....Huizenga did neither....
Sure he stayed out of the way of the football aspects....because he knew he didn't know a damn thing about it....neither did the guys in the suits standing beside him....there were time's when Miami was knocking on the door of the superbowl that they NEEDED somebody that knew football to step in to get them over the top....
He thought money was the answer to everything.....even people's loyalty.......the NFL isn't MLB....championships aren't bought....
Huizenga had his good points.....but he could never be considered as one of the best owners in the league in the class of the Rooney's....Robbie's...etc...IMO...
I miss actually liking Dolphins fans. I grew up in Bills territory, so whenever I met someone who was a Fins fan, it would make me happy. I would also go out of my way to give props to Fins fans. For example, if I saw a person walking down the street in a Fins coat, I would yell "Dolphins!!!" or something of that nature. Unfortunately, the advent of the internet has made me realize that I hate a lot of Fins fans as much as I do Bills fans, Jets fans, and Pats fans. Some days I wish I could go back to the way things used to be, but you can't go back in time.

here we go with the NFL being some elite entity in America. What are you saying? that you want a guy who sticks his nose in football operations? Im sure J. Jones knows alot about football too but u dont like him poking around right? So having money and allowing football ppl to make decisions is bad? or is not having money and trying to oversee operations a good thing? y fish for reasons to dislike the guy. Hes gone and thats that. we also had a winning team up until a few years ago - i dont get why ppl do not get this. i mean we did not win the superbowl and it sucks but we could have been perpetually out of the competition all together. You ppl act like this is the bengals or the browns or something and all we've done is be uncompetitive. Some of these ex coaches and owners etc werent the best but they were not the bottom of the barrell either. maybe ppl should stop over-analyzing draft picks and going over trade scenarios and protesting theme songs and go to the darn stadium and just scream for the dolphins.

Did I mention Jerry Jones? I don't even put him in the class with the Rooney's and Robbie's...
But since you did....Jerry Jones has 3 superbowl rings....
You think Jerry Jones would've sat there with his thumb up his *** as an incompetent head coach let a superbowl caliber team flitter away with Jay Fiedler at quarterback?
Yeah....right....lol
