Why did he trade Karim Abdul-Jabbar? :err: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0710/nfl.trade.deadline.deals/content.4.html
He was Marino's only 1000yd rusher and I believe put up back to back 1000yard seasons, plus the 16 and 15 tds his first 2 years. He was young and seemed like a stud at RB for us. I still have his jersey with "abdul-jabbar" even though it was pulled from the stores.

3 yard a carry- basaclly any starter, second string- heck even third string could have gotten that.

lots of 3 yard carrys got him a 1000 yards
:woot:

Yea he had low yards per carry. I think we also had spikes and parmalee at the time doing the same thing.

Jabbar was awful. He was too small and slow to be an effective back. The only reason he had a 1000 yard season was because he got 307 carries. Marino would have had a number of 1000 yard rushers if they had got 307 carries in a season. But, Shula was smart enough to not give carries to a back who couldn't be effective. JJ was trying make himself look good, so he gave 300+ carries to a below average RB. Jabbar did not have back to back 1000 yard seasons, and he averaged 3.4 yards per carry for his career.

Maybe 3.4 wasn't that good, but 16 and 15 td's damn sure wasn't bad.

it was 11 and 15 rushing touchdowns....and only 1 1,000 yard season.

He ran hard, but wasn't anything special. Improvement was definately needed at the position, unfortunately, JJ was never able to deliver it.

it was a good thing we got rid of him. He was out of the league three years later

Reason was he was used up. We burned him out by giving him all those carries for short yardage. The human body is only built to take so much abuse. Just ask Eddie George.

He was a decent runner, but he came much too late in Marino's career. I'm convinced that his productivity in the run game only came because of the decline of Marino. Still though, they ended up replacing him with an assortment of awful at RB including J.J Johnson. He could have at least stayed on the team.

WOW! I didn't realize we got a 3rd round pick for him......is there really any question why JJ would make that deal!?!?!

The reason we let him go was mainly because he had a "degenerative knee problem." Pretty sure we didnt trade him.

He was pretty mediocre but I can't believe that he actually scored 26 td's in his first two seasons. That's pretty incredible.
