I Never Understood Why Players Holdout

well you get taken much more seriously by not reporting to camp. if a player just throws out there that he wants a new contract and he still reports to TC, well, why give him a contract? he's gonna play. the guys who threaten to hold out or actually DO hold out usually get what they want

chances are he will be franchised

Do you think he's worth that money, particularly given the off the field issues? If it comes down to that, I think I might favor letting him go and making sure Miami gets the comp pick for him.

yea but if we are active in free agency it negates that.

Donald Lee has shown potential, but he needs to stop fumbling the ball, and dropping passes.

I can understand holding out to a point, guys like Hines Ward(who is the 37th highest paid WR) has earned a new deal, and has been doing it for a few years. Javon Walker I have a problem with because he finally lived up to his potential for one year and threatened a hold out. I think that a player should get fair market value, but you cant have a couple average seasons and then one great one and want a raise.....

That's not true -- Miami would just have to sign fewer qualifying free agents than the team loses. Consider the Patriots -- they were active to an extent but got nice comp picks.

Why go to camp with no contract when you could potentially get injured and then lose out on a lot.

Also, the whole point is that the organization will want to get the player signed so they can get into camp....if they just go to camp anyway, there's really no hurry to sign them.

They hold out for the same reasons that some physicians don't sign onto PPO plans that want to cut their reimbursment. That reason is that they have worked too hard for too long to get to this point, and they aren't going to take less than fair market value.

Except that players holdout to make more, not maintain their current incomes.
