the dolphins are relying way too much on rookies and inexperienced players.
I see people saying that all of Pouncey, Clay, Gates and Daniel Thomas are upgrades, and people here act as if it's set in stone that they'll all be big contributors. Well, that's a bunch of baloney and pom pom cheerleader hype.
May i remind you that only 50% of the picks in the first 4 rounds have panned out during Ireland's tenure. And of course, of the ones that did pan out, some of them took more than a year to get acclimated properly to the NFL game.
And then you have Bush who shouldn't even be considered a running back, because he isn't. He's a league worst 2.8 yards per carry average on grass. Cannot run between the tackles, has terrible vision in traffic, and defenses have learned how to defend him well because his limitations as a RB make him predictable. He's a glorified slot receiver and nothing more.. and we have plenty of slot receivers anyway. And Edmond Gates you say ? So what when you don't have a QB who can throw accurately deep to save his life. And other teams know this so they don;t take Miami's deep threats seriously anyway and will play the same shell coverages and cover 2's that Henne can't read for sh*t
Defense you say ? Yes, it's good, but so what when the offense is impotent. The defense was good last year and they looked like a bunch of chumps in week 17 at NE. And guess what, when this defense AGAIN realizes that the offense is impotent because of the lack of QB play, more than likely they will quit earlier -- or take their foot off the gas pedal when they realize all the pressure they're under with needing to shut out opposing teams just to have a chance to win.
It's just like hockey. When a goalie allows a bad soft goal he should have saved, you see the effect of that reverberating all around the team. The entire team feels deflated when their goalie lets in 2 soft goals. And it takes them out of their rhythm and game resulting in lackadaisical play. The same will happen this year when the offense is impotent once again, but it may happen earlier this year when the defense gets sick and tired of the horrible play of the offense under all that pressure they're under..
and having to deal with it for 2 years in a row will really deflate the psyche of the defensive players even more.
The Dolphins will be anywhere between 5-11 to 8-8. And 8-8 only IF they get all the lucky bounces and stay relatively healthy. This team has a 0% chance of a wildcard playoff berth in this AFC conference.
