I remember the days when watching D.Wannstedt coach our team to
11-5
11-5
9-7
10-6
and of course that one year, 1-8.......

Boy, I hated him. I hated him for giving us 4 winning seasons and one bad one. I hated him for sticking with Jay Fiedler who got us to two playoff games in 4 years..and even won a post-season game, i think. Wow, I hated that tandem. I remember screaming at the TV. I remember yelling at Jay Fiedler...telling him he sucked ***... I remember D. wannstedt running his desperate fingers through his hair time and time again and hating him for that. I remember how extremely happy I was when we finally kicked his *** out of Miami...and Fiedler.

Fast forward to today...... wow. Wow am I sorry. D.Wannstedt if you're reading this...or, Fiedler, if you are.....I'm truly sorry. It's what happens when you're spoiled. When you're used to making the playoffs year after year and seeing your team in the top offenses of the league or top defeneses of the league... It's what happens after years of respect for your team from your friends. When your coach is the winningest ever. But wow...was i off base... i've had a taste of what the bengals used to be...the patriots... the browns... the rams... the saints... wow...seems like eveyr team except teh dolphins sucked at some point or other. now we suck. we suck hard. coach after coach, qb after qb....coordinator after coordinator....stadium name after stadium name... draft after draft...we SUCK. S-U-C-K.

i was in san diego at teh game sunday....wearing my #54. everywhere i saw...i saw dolphins fans...yeah, we're diehard...we stick around and we represent. we're doing our part. i still pay for sunday ticket to watch my team get its *** kicked. i still buy merchandise. i still go to games. at the game...there they were...proudly wearing the colors..... ONE THING STUCK OUT....everywhere i saw... jerseys, tshirts, apparel.... a lot had names of times past... z.thomas, offerdahl!, cox, madison, marino, clayton, williams, etc. everywhere...you could see fans holding on to the past because they were so embarassed of teh present. people with their face in their hands...mouths wide open. fans just disgusted. some fans just stoic... sans emotion. myself, telling my friends at least we weren't 0-5...well at least until next week. you see, what was obvious was that we're disconnected with this new era of Miami Dolphins. they really don't deserve our fandom. we have stuck through for what appears to be around 15 years of a downward spiral... culminating into this cesspool of inconsistent talent, fearful coaching, bad leadership and unmanaged talent. we're left with a lines coach leading our team...compare that with shula. we're left with a guy who can lob a pass downfield and hit his receiver in stride once every 100 passes...compare that with marino who did it multiple times a game. we're left with a defense that you has you guessing what level of game their bringing each game....a defensive coordinator, known for his brilliant use of blitzing who can't fluster phillip rivers for one play because of his defensive schemes... a gm whose idea of bringing in talent means hiring ex cowboys.

help me love you, dolphins...help me stay the course with you.

I hated Jimmy Johnson and Saban much more than the Stache.

Are you kidding me? Wannstedt's Reign of Terror was the beginning of the end. After Shula was basically forced into retirement because of the fans clamoring for J J, Johnson had a couple of good drafts and disappointing seasons. The only reason Wannstedt even got the job was because Johnson told Huizenga to promote Dave Wannstedt to head coach after he left. Not a single good draft came from that coaching regime. And the reason he started off great was because he was coasting on a great defense built by JJ and a declining offense that, without Marino, could only sustain itself for so long.

If it wasn't for squandering of talent and the failure to acquire any good draft players, we might never have suffered through Saban or anything after.

True. Just 5 or 6 years after wannstache left, the only remaining player on the entire team from the wannstache/spielman drafts was Vernon Carey. ONE frickin player.

Blame the GM, not the coach.

Wannstedt had a winning record despite the poor drafting. Ricky doesn't screw the team it it probably would have been another winning season. Wandstedt's first 4 years in Miami were better than Shula's last 4. Imagine that defense and that running game with Marino.

If Fiedler hadn't broken his thumb in 2002, we'd have gone pretty far I think. Gadsden and Chambers both going down didn't help matters much either.

Wade Smith at LT in 2003 really hurt us badly.

I'm not sorry, **** Wannstedt. He was the beginning of a downward spiral for this team. This thread is a disgrace.
