I remember....

Somebody is grumpy.

Who built that defense that kept us competitive in those years, wasn't Wannstedt. Most mostly JJ and company. I'm not a fan of giving credit where it is not due. Wannstedt didn't draft ZT JT, Surtain and Madison, did he?

Blame the GM, not the coach.

Wannstedt had a winning record despite the poor drafting. Ricky doesn't screw the team it it probably would have been another winning season. Wandstedt's first 4 years in Miami were better than Shula's last 4. Imagine that defense and that running game with Marino.

I believe wanny was in charge of everything until the last 2 years when spiel man got promoted...not sure though

How quickly we forget. Wrongstadt did just exactly what he did to Da Bears... set a franchise back a decade. Anybody who thinks otherwise needs help.

Thanks Wanny for overriding speilman and drafting jamar Fletcher and Eddie Moore over bolden and drew brees.

Wannstache was the coach and GM, stuck with Fiedler for 5 years, and refused to draft a QB high to compete. Three yards and a cloud of dust, etc.. The man had early success with Jimmy's roster and then his horrible personnel decisions had an effect on the franchise years later.

Please don't get me started on Wannstache...

I remember the days when watching D.Wannstedt coach our team to
11-5
11-5
9-7
10-6
and of course that one year, 1-8.......

Boy, I hated him. I hated him for giving us 4 winning seasons and one bad one. I hated him for sticking with Jay Fiedler who got us to two playoff games in 4 years..and even won a post-season game, i think. Wow, I hated that tandem. I remember screaming at the TV. I remember yelling at Jay Fiedler...telling him he sucked ***... I remember D. wannstedt running his desperate fingers through his hair time and time again and hating him for that. I remember how extremely happy I was when we finally kicked his *** out of Miami...and Fiedler.

Fast forward to today...... wow. Wow am I sorry. D.Wannstedt if you're reading this...or, Fiedler, if you are.....I'm truly sorry. It's what happens when you're spoiled. When you're used to making the playoffs year after year and seeing your team in the top offenses of the league or top defeneses of the league... It's what happens after years of respect for your team from your friends. When your coach is the winningest ever. But wow...was i off base... i've had a taste of what the bengals used to be...the patriots... the browns... the rams... the saints... wow...seems like eveyr team except teh dolphins sucked at some point or other. now we suck. we suck hard. coach after coach, qb after qb....coordinator after coordinator....stadium name after stadium name... draft after draft...we SUCK. S-U-C-K.

i was in san diego at teh game sunday....wearing my #54. everywhere i saw...i saw dolphins fans...yeah, we're diehard...we stick around and we represent. we're doing our part. i still pay for sunday ticket to watch my team get its *** kicked. i still buy merchandise. i still go to games. at the game...there they were...proudly wearing the colors..... ONE THING STUCK OUT....everywhere i saw... jerseys, tshirts, apparel.... a lot had names of times past... z.thomas, offerdahl!, cox, madison, marino, clayton, williams, etc. everywhere...you could see fans holding on to the past because they were so embarassed of teh present. people with their face in their hands...mouths wide open. fans just disgusted. some fans just stoic... sans emotion. myself, telling my friends at least we weren't 0-5...well at least until next week. you see, what was obvious was that we're disconnected with this new era of Miami Dolphins. they really don't deserve our fandom. we have stuck through for what appears to be around 15 years of a downward spiral... culminating into this cesspool of inconsistent talent, fearful coaching, bad leadership and unmanaged talent. we're left with a lines coach leading our team...compare that with shula. we're left with a guy who can lob a pass downfield and hit his receiver in stride once every 100 passes...compare that with marino who did it multiple times a game. we're left with a defense that you has you guessing what level of game their bringing each game....a defensive coordinator, known for his brilliant use of blitzing who can't fluster phillip rivers for one play because of his defensive schemes... a gm whose idea of bringing in talent means hiring ex cowboys.

help me love you, dolphins...help me stay the course with you.

Um, what? We were spoiled with Wanny because he made the playoffs for us year after year? Was I watching the same Dolphins in 2002-2004?
We had the best runningback, the best secondary, great linebackers, amazing pass rush and a couple of dynamic weapons at the skill positions and we still couldn't make the playoffs because of his ****. People who support Fiedler and Stachy amaze me given what they did with what they had to work with.
The Stache made 0 positive contributions to the success of the Miami Dolphins. Sticking with Jay Fiedler and **** heads like Wade Smith and Seth Mckinney on the offensive line set this franchise back years.
Those late season collapses in those years (mostly to the ****ing PATS) were equally as painful as these flat out horrible seasons are now.
Thank WANNY not Saban for why we don't have Drew Brees right now.

This thread is a disgrace.

They're just mad that you didn't finish your post with saying something about Luck being the Savior of the Dolphins. This thread was bound to end up being about Luck so I went ahead and beat them to it.

Luck will turn this team around and make us forget about feidler and even Marino!!! Marino who??!!

I kind of miss the Shula years. I wasn't around for the perfect season but I remember growing up when it was a given that they would win the division.

Fiedler gets a bad rap, but Wannestadt deserves far more awful things said about him. it's fun to blame it all on Saban because of the way he left, or Sparano/Ireland because they're currently in charge, but this all stems from Wannestadt. holy **** did he ruin this franchise.

what are you guys talking about with d.wannstedt and his personnel decisions???? praising jimmy johnson like e was some kind of draft genius for getting us a handful of players that you guys can still remember. i think a lot of you are just talking to talk. as far as draft choices......maybe a lot of you don't remember jimmy johnson trading away FUTURE draft picks like nothing...probably because he didn't plan on being there too long.

yeah, jimmy johnson drafted z.thomas, j.taylor, sam madison and pat surtain...also daryl gardener who was a 1st round draft pick. wow.........5 really good players. out of how many picks? 44 draft choices. do good on 5 selections...... and you're a genius....lose out on 40 picks and you're still a genius. why don't you guys try remembering some really great picks by jimmy johnson ........hmm... who remembers john avery??? 1st round draft pick...BUST. who remembers jj johnson???? 1st round draft pick, BUST. Yatil Green, anyone?? 1st round draft pick ...........BUST!!!!!!!!!! thanks, jimmy johnson. now see if ANYONE can name a single draft choice from the 37 other picks!!! really great draft picks j.johnson!

i don't particularly like d.wannstedt, never did......maybe some of you couldn't catch on to the sarcasm....or, better, the really biting sarcasm in my tone that relative to today's team i would much rather be rooting for d.wannstedt and our dolphins team of the early 2000s. it also is true that we unfairly bashed the guy......he did not suck as hard as we felt at the time. you guys keep bashing him for his personnel decisions and how he ruined the dolphins. grow up. maybe you don't remember that BECAUSE of jimmy johnson.....miami had THREE out FOUR years under wannstedt with NO FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK!!!! yeah, he selected jamar fletcher and he'll never live that down. but also remember during his tenure...with no 1st round talen...and always selecting REALLY LATE in the 2nd or3rd round.....miami still managed to draft vernon caery, wade smith, yeremiah bell, randy mchmichael and chris chambers. didn't randy mcmichael catch some passes against us this past sunday??? you guys unfairly bash wannstedt without knowing the facts. jimmy johnson was in control of everything and abused that role to benefit his time there and he didn't do much. i would have loved drafting ONE GOOD QUARTERBACK IN ALL THOSE DRAFTS rather than defensive players.

the downward spiral actually began when jimmy johnson took over and decided marino's arm wasn't worth using. he couldn't fire him.......so he'll just make marino irrelevant. don't tell me you guys don't remember that.

wannstedt did not ruin any franchise....j.johnson had way more to do with that. shula didn't set johnson up for failure either when he left. unlike most coaches, coach shula left with his team in good shape and with picks. in fact, i want to say don shula's last game was a playoff game.

wow...

Dave Wannstedt was a lousy coach who wasted the prime years of great players like Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas. Jay Fiedler was a career backup who lucked into a starting spot because Dave Wannstedt was a lousy coach. Don't come here and cry for them ten years later just because we have a group of clowns running the show again. Are you going to be on here in ten years crying for Tony Sparano and Chad Henne?

Nick Saban, Rick Spielman, Randy Mueller, Cam Cameron, Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano have been so inept, and run this franchise so far into the ground, that you are pining for the days of Jay Fumbler and the Wannstache? Wow, this team is in bad shape.

you need to learn to read.

dolphins bad luck can be attributed more to lack of playmakers, bad free agent moves, bad drafts, bad general management in the acquisition of playesr for trades... most because of these reasons than bad coaching.

or are you going to say that norv turner, chan gailey, dom capers, cam cameron, saban, wannstedt.......ALL WINNERS TODAY....all just sucked at MIAMI because they sucked as coaches?

get a clue, man... in the NFL you need a QB...FIRST AND FOREMOST. then good players.... then a coach. you can put a ****ty coach with an elite QB and the team can win. put the best coach with a ****ty QB and players and he'll never win in today's NFL.
