"Philbin and Sherman will have to make it work. They are in the process of implementing a West Coast offense, which is a system Manning didn't run in Indianapolis. Manning won't be a spoke in the wheel. He has all the leverage and needs to be convinced he's the biggest cog and decision-maker on offense. If Manning can't get that in Miami, he will get it in Arizona, New York, or somewhere else"

All I'm saying is, West Coast Offense is fine. But you create the offense around your playmakers. WCO is great for someone like Flynn or Moore, but with Manning under center, you change your playbook. Because above all else, it's about winning.

Look at Brady. The cat doesn't even call the play til he gets to the line, and that took them to the superbowl. I think letting Manning audible the play to whatever he sees is A MUST.

Peyton is smart enough to run any offense, he will adjust as he needs at the line, it should be a non-issue

if manning was 26 instead of 36 i would be on board with all that.

but he is not, and, he is injured and its an injury that can end him on any hit, any throw, much like penningtons shoulder.

if we sign him and let him have the offense and all the goodies, he better deliver high playoffs first year and superbowl 2nd or this is a COLOSSAL CLUSTER FUGG!!! no playoffs first year and none or a quick out in year two will be finz suicide!

we have a REAL future started here, finally. quality, experianced, championship coaches and staff. promising young players and the most sound offensive philosophy in the history of the nfl and now that will all ride on one 36 year old guys shoulder and neck nerves that fans and staff will be holding their breath EVERY TIME he goes back to throw.

if it fails, we are set way, way back once again and this owner and team will suffer for years and will probably end with these coaches all going somewhere else after it all crashes. all this hope, this future, credibility, all things we have needed and hoped for for years all gone in one throw, one sack.

instant gratification is just about always short lived in all facets of life and i would prefer we dont take this mega expensive [both monetary and credibility] risk and continue this bright, promising, sound future this staff is putting together.

the pats are the the door to the show and peyton manning, his audible show and tendencies are nothing new to them and they have it all in recent memory and have been peyton's nemises for the better part of his career. so this is not much of a "sure thing" superbowl appearance should manning sign here. and i think he knows this. you can bet billichek does.

i think this whole thing has a much better chance to implode than succeed.

i think philbin and sherman are on the phone hourly asking each other "what the hell did we just walk into". i do not see sherman coming here after ireland tells him, "we really want you here, but, theres a chance peyton manning will be available and if he is, we are going after him, and that means he will be in charge of his own offense and plays".

this was not discussed with either coach and you can bet there is more than a little "people tried to tell us" spinning in their heads.

if this happens, of course, i will be right in rooting as he is the best in the biz when all things are in place. but, i dont know if my old ticker can handle holding dozens of long breaths over a 3 hour period every sunday for 4 months.

all in all, if anyone "f$#ks this up it will be on jeff ireland and boss ross's heads as this whole thing is NOT what these coaches were promised or privey to. sherman will almost imediately become irrelevant as the offensive locker room will be looking to peyton in the meetings and on the sideline. not a comfy, productive scenerio for ANY coach. and it WILL cause tention with the players, staff and upper brass.

i prefer to just stay on plan, stay on course for the bright future we have in front of us and not end up looking like the goofs of the nfl once again driving even more coaches from EVER wanting to come here.

One ingredient that alot are forgetting.Peyton has to "WANT" to come and be a 'Fin.That
is something that is out of Ross'/Ireland's/and Philbin's control!!!

If PM was 26 we wouldn't be having this thread - period - he is rare and he is a risk - this is a risk reward scenario - if you do land PM you might be inclined as well trade down and acquire that QB and a player you like in the second round

I think there's as big of a risk signing a player like Matt Flynn who's had 2 career starts and could be a Kolb or Cassel like situation. As well, drafting a rookie QB (either luck, rg3 or tann) has the same amount of risk. It's really a pick your poison situation, and if there were real guarantees then the decision would be easy.

You might not like the risks on an injured old qb. But this is a professional sport where injuries, and the rehab of them, is a common everyday thing. He's the best QB in the league, bar none. I don't care what you Brady lovers have to say.

Personally, if I have to pick, I'm done with unproven QB's that might excell in a system. We've done that for 13 years. Time to bring in the biggest dog in the pound. Because even if he doesn't work out, at least we tried!

Would you have this same opinion if we got Manning, and still went and drafted Tannehill for the future? I know it's a longshot, but this is what I am hoping happens.

Why not just make Peyton Manning the OC and give him control to run the offense. In the NBA you have had players who ran the team while playing for them (Bill Russell, for example). Manning knows more about running things and winning than most OC's ever will, so why not be felxible and give him the reins to run the offense.

didnt rodgers sit behind favre for 3 or 4 years before starting? How is it a bad thing to draft a QB with no intention of starting him for a full 3 years like cam or parcels wanted to do with their projects? cam never wanted beck in there and neither did parcels with henne...

if manning starts for 3 years and gives us good play and then when he leaves we have a QB that has grown up in a system, knows the speed of the nfl, and has been practicing for 3 years and HE HASNT HAD HIS CONFIDENCE SHAKEN BY FANS THAT HAVE NEVER GOTTEN OVER MARINO...yet...

Relax. Manning can run any system. If a gunslinger like Favre could succeed in the WCO, imagine what a much more cerebral QB in Manning could do in it.

How soon people forget about SB MVP, Aaron Rodgers. It is about winning...andd WCO QB's like Joe Montana, Steve Young and Aaron Rodgers isn't enough of a proven thing for you people. I mean its about 'winning' right?:lol2:

Didn't Painter sit behind Manning for 3 or so years?
