I'm not even all that angry anymore. When the Dolphins were unable to blow it open and Clay couldn't hang on to that pass in the end zone, I was bracing myself for it to play out like this because I've seen it happen so often before.
Going in, I didn't think Miami would win in Detroit. To see this score and not have watched the game I might have felt positive that we were competitive. But, like the Green Bay game, the Dolphins should have won this. Poor time out management, another slow start, losing the turnover battle, missing tackles and allowing key conversions on third-and-long (not counting the first fake punt) ... this is what I've come to expect, unfortunately.
This isn't a bad team. It's not a good team. It's still an average team. Average talent. Average coaching. You aren't good until you win games like Green Bay and Detroit, and the Dolphins continue to let those slip away.
Still a lot of football to be played, but I think this team ends up around 8-8 and missed the playoffs. There'll be a lot of tough decisions to be made in the offseason, because when the Dolphins have looked good they have looked tremendous. But seeing so many of the same issues persist three years into Philbin's tenure ... I just don't think he's any more than an average coach at best. I hate tearing the whole thing down, but I worry the Dolphins are going to be stuck in the middle and slowly decay if they don't make a change.
