I truly believe that the Atlanta Falcons in week one...are in serious trouble. Not just a homer speaking just a true football fan....here's what I think:

The phins now can move toward being one of the elite teams (not just yet) they have upgraded the pass rush and the pass Defense, and that spells trouble for Matt Ryan. I went back and looked at most of his highlights and they came on running downs and defensive breakdowns ( he's not like brady or manning). He will get a heavy dose of pass rushing from the outside 1st game everyone hyped up ready to prove last year was for REAL...and in the passing lanes now should be a lot smaller because we got some big bodies that are young.

Turner made most of his big runs on stunts and draws, and other times the falcons o-line just was just too physical for certain teams, I just don't see that happening to the phins. As of now barring injury I just can't see this working against our Front seven.

So on a fast track ( the georgia dome) our big fast d-fense should more than handle M. ryan, turner and roddy white and tony gonzo, WITH CONSTANT PRESSURE, AND MAN COVERAGE.

On defense they lost a starting safety and 2/3 of their lb crobs. With a steady hand at QB, ronnie and ricky, the WILCAT. we should be more than pumped to prove last year was no fluke. comments and suggestion welcomed! OUT:hi5:

Lets not get too ****y here... remember Ryan's 1st NFL pass, and their 1600 yard rusher and 1000 reciever, not to mention tony gonzalez and an improved OL. I hope we win, but Atlanta and Miami were the two feel good stories of the 2008 season with both coaches getting coach of the year honors... IMO this game could go either way. Not to mention its in atlanta.

Atlanta had a top 8 offense, or around there last year while we had the #10, we had the 15th defense while they had 24th. If I had to predict a win off last seasons standings, Id say the offense is a roughly a push with us having a slight edge in defense making us the better team.. however looking forward into week 1s game, all things being equal, we have to go to Atlanta (not like its a far trip for Miami), and play in there house.. that might be what they need to get a win.. hope not though.

Not getting ahead of myself....I just didn't see him under pressure and turner had huge lanes to runs through.

I'm not gonna lie, Atlanta got better this offseason as well. But I think we're going to unleash some offensive "firepower" in the first game of the season. We'll just see how the JT and the new DB's holds up.

Im sure they even improved that OL, and Im sure our pass rush is better. which could still be a push. however JT isnt the best run stopper, and albiet he totally sucks at pass defense, Crowder is [very good at stopping the run, as long as its coming right at him and he doesnt have to persue]. We should be able to contain the middle of the field, but the outsides might hurt us having JT on 1 side (that is if roth isnt in on running downs and JT is-id rather have roth in there than jt on running downs) and porter on the other.. both bad at run stopping;the outside might have me a bit worried. we definately have the edge at the QB position in temrs of smarts and game management and all areas of the defense (DL might be a push too-I think we have a slight edge here)... they have the edge at WR, and RB might be a push too as well as TE (they have no TE depth behind TG, we do).

I think we will do better with game planning and play calling.. They have pisslarky for god sakes.

I think the Gonolez add for them was massive. That was a huge move for a young QB. ATL ain't gonna be easy to deal with. I think you JT guys are thinking he's all of a sudden DPOTY again. If he can provide 8-10 Sacks in spot play, he's a win....He's not the force he once was. Right now, this team is full of situational players, it seems like, on D, and, cobbleing together a Defense isn't really going to work the whole year, I think. Maybe it's just me, but, I sort of cringe if anything goes wrong.....And it usually does.

Our d-backs have to do a much better job...the Falcons have a lot of game breakers, and we saw what the Cardinals did to us last year, and how we had problems containing Andre Johnson of the Texans. I think it' a pretty even battle on paper....but it is in their building.

I've gone to some KC games, mainly the ones MIA played in KC. And every time Tony G. plays MIA he has a nice productive day. With a decent QB and running game this upcoming year, he'll put up nice numbers barring injury week 1. We still have Crowder and Akin in the middle who have to jam and run w/ him.

I still remember the game in KC where Ricky ran over one of their safety's, was like in 03 or 04. And that game Tony G. ate up Zach. Had seats in the Luxury Box w/ a firm that does KC screen printings great beer great food, terrible second half. Trent Green scrambling all over MIA that game was beer headache inducing trouble.

Roddy White is nice but he isnt Boldin Fitz or Andre

I think you are under estimating the talent we have on this team. I dont see us as a team of situational players at all. We have a few guys that I would call situational down players but I think the vast majority of our players are developing into solid starters. Im with you on not being sold on JT being the player he once was and am not counting on him to be a game changer. I think our FO knows what they hired in JT and will create postions and situations that give him opprotinities tpo suceed. something I noticed in Porters game last here was how his performance level seemed to trail off toward the end of the season. I really dont know if he has the energy level to play all 17 weeks of football without having someone rotated in to help him from time to time. I think for that reason JT is going to be usefull. Also finding ways to play them both on the field together at the same time will hopefully create some interesting missmatches. I do agree with you though that people should temper thier expectations to how much JT is going to contribute on the field for us. The reality is he did not sign with us cheap cause he is a nice guy, he was signed at the market value for his services. He might of gotten slightly lowballed coming back but not much. He basically too the best offer on the table for himself. If NE would of offered him enough money he would of went there. They probably only offered him 2mil tops which wasnt enough for him to ruin his legacy here. Ill bet if they offered him 4mil he would of signed with them. Anyhow I am not trying to trash him, he was a great player in the past for us. I was pleased that we signed him again after I heard the money we are paying him. It is a reasonable contract. The one reservation I continue to hold about it is if he is going to be somewhat of a distraction in camp with the media hype that will be surrounding his return.

But back to the topic I kinda drifted off, LOL. Defensivly I feel like we have a very respectable and solid front 7. Our DB's are questionable but we brought in lots of competition so I am hopefull that stratagy pans out for us and we find a good core of DB's to go into this season with.

Offensivly it is almost the same story as the defense. I think we are solid and respectable just about at every postion we have. I think most of our questions revolve around our recievers, TE's and WR's alike. Nobody has really broke out for us yet but they are all good role players so I am optimistic they have enough talent to be adequate.

ST's I think is our biggest wildcard this year. I hope we see some signicant improvements in that area. Im really not very impressed with anyone on ST's. I think this year is going to say alot about Carpenter. I dont know if I am alone in my feelings about him but it seemed like he got his confidence shook late in the season last year and never really rebounded from it completely. That first missed FG I think broke his spirit a bit and it concerns me that he isnt the clutch kicker he is be billed as. I am also troubled by his weak kickoffs. Our punter is another huge question mark for us this year, hopefully he wont be relied on much this season. Blocking and tackling was just ugly on special teams. Our return guys are average. Lots of work to be done with our ST's unit.

I think we match up fairly evenly against Alanta and if both teams show up it should be a close game with lots of excitment. The thing is, opening day is always unpredictable. Lots of guys get off to slow starts and you dont really see them in thier zone till the 3rd or 4th week of the season. It will be interesting to see if either of our teams fall victim to slow starter players.

gonna be some really interesting matchups in this game. i think our D will be very solid this year. while our D showed a lot of promise at times last year, it was very inconsistent and we frequently got torched. wilson, davis, smith and (taylor+wake) will really help that, as will the maturation of langford and merling.

Week one always seems to tell a lot.
Last year it told me we are a totally different team. The only thing that looked like the same old dolphins in that game was favres stupid *** punt throw.
This year I think if we can slow down that running attack, If crowder comes in and steps it up after he gets his money it would be nice. Wilson got a lot of money and I suspect he will come in and play at a very high level I liked this guy coming out of college I was shocked when he signed to the raiders. Another year in the same system with some new plug ins will only help the guys. Im looking forward to seeing our D this year.

yeah, gotta stop the run first, no doubt. Thats why Ryan was so successful in his first season aside from knowing where to throw. On offense we have to control the ball more and get our own running game going.

First game as a non-conference game scares me a little due to last year at Arizona on the road, but I imagine we use the wildcat in the redzone and score some points. The rest will lay on the defense. Special teams this year will be better but we need to make something happen there to win IMO. Whether it be punts inside the 5 or blocked kicks or maybe Brian Harline knocks someone silly and causes a fumble.
