On today's Insider press conference Coach Saban was asked about the chop block on Vickerson and said it was a legal block, the rules say it's legal and that's that(basically what he said). My question is this: Did it not bother him or is he just being politically correct? I got the feeling it bothered him but there's nothing he can do because technically it's a legal block. For those who saw it, what do you think?

if its legal then its legal. what do you want him to say? our players do it too.

I realize that but people on this board have been pi55ed off all day at the block so I was just wondering what they thought of Saban's comments.

I thought he was fairly honest. He said that the block is legal, but you can debate whether or not it should be legal. He then went on to say he supports any rule that prevents injuries, which seemingly means he would support a ban on those types of blocks.

It was definitely a legal block. Also completely unnecessary, that's the frustrating aspect. Vickerson was stalemated on the pass rush, slightly left of center as the play unfolded from his left DT position. The QB rolled to his left and had plenty of separation. Vickerson was no factor at all, ten yards behind and to the side of the play, and flatfooted. He had two blockers in front of him. If Vickerson had not hustled at all, he probably would be completely healthy today. But when he instinctively started to chase the play the secondary blocker reacted to Vickerson's movement and chopped him. Vickerson was looking at the QB and didn't see the block at all. It leveled him immediately and you could tell it was serious by the way he fell and reacted.

He must have been upset with it, but I don't think he could say that, he doesn't want to get on the officials'/NFL's bad side.

I think if the same situation took place in his 3rd or 4th year as a NFL HC he may have said something different. He prob doesn't want to be known as a whinner by his peers in the NFL.

even if he feels it was a dirty play, he doesn't want to get fined by going against the league or refs here.

It's done, its over with. Whining about it does nothing now.
