I just wish add my opinions and views from my view point at the dome Sunday. I didn’t take notes and am doing this by memory so I’m sorry if the points are a little random.

First of all it was my Wife and I very first time going to an NFL game. It was a great experience and we want to do it again very soon!

Pre game:

When we first walked out of the hotel with our Jerseys on we didn’t know what to expect but to our surprise we only saw dolphins Jersey’s until we reached the 5 points terminal on the Marta. We thought for awhile that it would be 80% Dolphins fans. That changed when we changed trains at the terminal.

Before the game the Atlanta fans were nice and left us alone. The Workers at the Dome were very nice and helpful. The Dome is a nice facility and it’s a great place to watch a game. Heck it’s a constant 72 degrees. It’s kind of like watching the game from your living room. The Atlanta fan sitting to my right told me the hottest he has ever been was at a Dolphins Home game a few years ago. I just smiled and said, “That is what we call home field advantage.” We had a good view of the field but sat in the nose bleed section, so forgive me if I get a player or two wrong when talking about the game.

As you would expect the Dolphins were booed when they came to and from the Locker room.

Game time:

One thing I noticed about the game was that I think Tedd Ginn was constantly getting separation from his coverage guy. In the first quarter Chad missed an easy 6 when Tedd totally broke free from his guy and was running ALONE down the sideline toward the end zone. Chad looked his direction and when the crowd realized what was about to happen, went nuts. Chad then proceeded to throw the ball ( I think intentionally) out of bounds 20 yards shy of Ginn. How he didn’t see Ginn is still a question in my head but I wasn’t on the field.

Pat white also had Ginn beating his guy to the end zone during one of the wild cat plays. He actually tried to get it to Ginn but over threw him.

Speaking of the wild cat, even though we didn’t score any points off it, I was impressed with the new wrinkles they put in it. There was the ‘traditional’ let Ronnie run it play, there was a Pat White run play, a Ted gin run play,A pat white pass play (where he missed Ginn), a hand off to Ted Ginn who then threw it to back across the field to Chad play. Fun stuff to watch.

The Falcon D was getting pressure on Chad a lot. Most of it came from the outside. Seemed like both Carey and Long were having bad days, My wife thought she saw Chad yelling at Long on the side line after he was sacked in first half (The play where he was hit from behind in the back of the knee).

What happened to Fasano? He was solid last year, just seemed to me that he could not hold onto the ball.

4 turn overs? Two of which where almost run back for TDs? Can’t win games when you do that.

To many penalties. It got to the point where after we made a play I waited until there where no flags before celebrating.

Where did the Faclons find their place kicker? Missed two field goals and an extra point?

Ginn needs work on kick off returns; I don’t think he ever made it to the 20. Seems like he dances around to much,

Ricky Looked Good and seemed to have a better game than Ronnie did.

See that catch Camarillo made? On his leg!Wow!

Our defense seemed good; had a couple of good passes broken up and Joey seemed to stuff most of the run plays. We also Sacked Matt (why do they call him Matty Ice?) twice.

About the 4th quarter, the Falcons fans started to realize they where going to win and started some trash talk. Funny stuff, had a guy stand up, look at me, pull out his car keys and point to them. Guess he was telling me it was time to go home? The Falcons fans in front of me actually started to root for us to score.

Beginning of the 4th Dolphins fans started to leave.

By the end of the game I think I was one of the few Fans left (from my point of view) but I always watch games to the bitter end.

Thank God we scored at the end. I knew we where going to lose in the 4th but I didn’t want a shut out. I was pulling out my hair when they called back the first TD in the 4th.

Jason Taylor was the last Dolphin off the field.

Got a lot of trash talk on the way back to the hotel. Had Random people point at us and call us loosers and say we suck @%%, One guy called us the stinky guppies (Whatever that means). Cars would drive by honking etc. Basically the beer was talking, I don’t know why but looking back at it, it was all pretty funny.

Final thoughts:

Even though I think we played badly, I don’t think it’s the end of the world. Hopefully this is the worst we’ll see them all year, or perhaps Atlanta is just that good. We really won’t know for a few weeks but in the mean time it’s important to just try and look forward to improving in the next game. Lets save the doom and gloom stuff until we are 0-3 or worse.

Sirdrums I like your thread and it sounds like you had a good time.

it looks like Ginn may be underrated now but Jake long and the entire oline looks way overpaid for their collective perfomances.

I think that since Penny cant throw the ball deep this is hurting our running game we need to get a stronger arm qb in the game so we can do that very thing.

good write up, thanks...

what we at home miss out is the receivers when we watch on TV, its always good to find out who's getting good separation because we can't see it...

And seeing the field from a birds eye view helps see them as well. Which is why I am not coming down on Penny to badly for it. I can only imagine how the field looks when there are 300 pound line men running at you.

I'm sure it's hard to scan an entire field left to right and usually you only go through 2-3 options and he was hurried in some sort 2/3 of his dropbacks. If only we hadn't turned the ball over so much the good completion percentage and decent YPC would've looked nice. We never could get in a rhythm with the TO's..

Others are saying the blocking was terrible on KR's. And their kicker is Jason Elam..an ex-great. =\ Just had a bad game but he has a big leg.. There really was only a few penalties. I also liked the WC stuff we ran, idk why everyone wants to abandon it. A few nice reverses, the Pat White play would've been a TD and everyone would praise him if it'd worked. Better than an INT.

It seems like every person who goes to these games says that Ginn gets seperation. It's so frustrating that Pennington is unwilling or unable to attempt the deeper pass.

This is where Pennington's arm hurts him. He can't just make that quick decision and launch the ball. Unless he is really able to step into a pass he wont take a shot at a pass that will require some mustard so to speak.

I'm just curious to know if you couldn't see where you were sitting that the 10 guys who were supposed to be blocking for Ginn weren't doing their job. Ginn couldn't get to the 20 becuase he was being swarmed by defenders everytime he got to the 10-15 yard line. Cobbs was put in and didn't do any better, I really couldn't believe how bad the ST's blocking was. I mean I knew they weren't that good, but I had never seen anything like that before. I had a feeling that they put Cobbs in later in the game simply because they didn't want to risk injury to Ginn because he was getting clobbered by multiple defenders before he even had a chance to go anywhere.

I enjoyed your account from inside the stadium. It sheds light on what really went on. The television skews things.

I have been saying this since the game ended. Ted Ginn was open often and Chad never went to him. It could have been a totally different game if Chad had went to Ginn at least 6 - 8 times. And I think the reason Ginn looked weak in the return game was because HE DIDN'T DO IT IN PRESEASON! All the sudden he's thrown out there to return. Why did Sparano do that? I know Ginn will get better at returns as the season progresses. He should at least run one or two back for TDs as well.

Pennington threw to his TE too much. And Fasano tried to do too much. It was bad decision making on Chad's part. He was taking the high-percentage throws way too much. Miami has had a QB like that for the last 10 years. It sucks.

Again, it was ST's blocking that prevented Ginn from doing anything on ST's. I really find it hard to believe that EVERYBODY that watched the game doesn't know this.

awesome insight.

it makes me feel better than the falcons fans were crapping their pants when they saw the seperation.

sucks we couldnt get him the ball.

You are right and I didn't mean to imply that it was all Ginns fault. I do remember that it seemed he ran into a collapsing pocket everytime he returned, by the time he go into the pocket there where no lanes to run through.

I guess my remark was off the thought that usually returners can get to the 15 or so before they get hit. He was running into a wall at the 10. I guess i thought he was not running fast enough, maybe it was becasue of the poor blocking. Perhaps after I have seen more games in person I can better judge that.

I will say that when Cobbs returned, he did make it to the 20. That was late in the game though.

They had some of the same reaction to the wild cat plays. It seemed to scare them.

I was also at the game, and I was so happy to see so many fellow FIN fans there as well, they even started a chant in the section next to me "LET'S GO DOLPHINS" it was awesome!!

I second everything that was said, another thing that I thought was cool, was that when Pat White would enter the game the entire staduim would stand, and I know he didn't much and yes he missed Ginn who burned 2 falcon DB's but it was nice to see his arm strength.

Thanks, great post. This confirms what I got drilled yesterday for saying about Ginn getting seperation. You can't see that on TV...Um, yes you can! Atleast there are some positives from a game that made me sick to my stomach. Thanks once again for the insight.

Ya, it was crazy. On TV the ref made a bad call against the Dolphins and I hear this crazy booing coming from my speakers. I was like deeeem, my fellow Phin fans are representing in the Dome!
