totally diffent view from whats on TV i'll tell you that!

well folks it has been a long season... already:shakeno:

i have been looking foreward to todays game for some time because i felt it was an easy win and would finaly give us the chance to get some reps under out belt so that we could improve.

here is my analysis of the problem and some moments from the game.

first off Mike Mularky is the problem...
and culpepper is not the answer.

when you watch these games on tv its just not the same as being there... when you are at the game you see the whole field... you get to see what the TV doesnt show you..
what i saw was the most vanilla basic bland offensive playcalling ever.
and for no reason... Daunte is a great QB our recievers are great...

Just like all the other teams so far and all the teams we will see the rest of the season... our apponents blitzed with 8 from the get go... zone blitzes and stunts..
what was our answer!
WHAT WAS OUR ANSWER! NOTHING!
WE DIDNT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!

no slants or quick outs... no... we didnt try and run the ball we just dug a hole and laid in it

once again we didnt pick up the tempo spread the offence and throw quick outs and slants against the rush untill the 4th quarter when it was too late.

Culpepper is not the solution in this offense ... either the play calling has to change or he does.
if no reciever is open he holds it... and waits.. pumps... waits..
i swear to god on many plays i started yelling 'THROW IIIITTTTTT"!
I could wait several seconds... watch recievers in single coverage... see the pocket collapsing... yell throw it.. .and still he had a second or two befor he was sacked..

Culpepper needs to throw downfield to single coverage at 3.5 seconds period... PERIOD! he needs to give our recievers a chance... or at the very least overthrow them so that the D is forced to put more into coverage so that the running game can open up!

in no way is he doing what he is doing without the go ahead of the coaching staff at this point... and for that i dont get it! I JUST DONT GET IT

NOW for some reason once we are behind the playcalling starts to become what it needs to be... quick.. up tempo passing to kill the blitz then strategic hits down field
MIKE if your out there.. and reading this... do that in the first quarter so that it will open up the run!:tantrum:

heres my question. you claim mularkey is clearly not the answer. and everyone knows the OLine has been absolutely horrible this year. couple that with a lack of running game and alot of max protects that involve extremely limited routes being run, and how is it you can come to the conclusion Daunte isnt the answer?

Our new Offense: All no-huddle all the time(only time Chambers' # gets called)

simple. he saw daunte hold the ball to long so therefore he does not fit our offensive style. anyone care to tell me what exactly our style is that he doesnt fit...?

If Daunte is not the answer then how was he able to have so much success at the end of the game. You don't make sense.

He is saying because Culpepper doesn't get rid of the ball. How often do you hear a color commentator say that a guy is open when no one is on him in college. In the NFL a guy is open when one guy is on him. Often it's about placement of the ball and giving the receiver a chance like the poster said. Culpepper just holds onto the ball.

Good post.
You are so right about being at the game.
You can see it all.
If there are open receivers on a play you can clearly see them.

I"ve seen the exact same thing at our home games.

There are times when Culpepper doesn't have a prayer due to the OL not picking up rushes.

There are also times where he's had good time, WR's are open and either he's not seeing them or he just isn't all the way back mentally and isn't confident that he can make the throw.

The entire unit suffers from inconsistency and Mularkey is part of the problem as well as he isn't reacting to what is happening on the field.

There are a lot of problems and after today I just don't see us being able to overcome them enough to grow into a decent team this year.

how many times did Daunte get sacked today cause he held on to the ball to long? OK, ill even go on the bad side real quick.

he was sacked 5 times today. lets just say he held on to the ball for to long ALL 5 times. is it seriously that bad on 50 drop backs?

Change of defensive scheme and we went into a hurry up offense. Teams are willing to give up yardage as long as they are not giving up huge plays when they are up by 2 scores or more.

Well even watching the game on Direct TV one could see that there were few if any slants, only a couple of screens called (should have been more), or draws called. We were SO predictable on 3rd down. Oh and another thing not enough play action either.

The holding on the ball too long is an issue but from this vantage point not even the most worrisome. Simply put the OL can not effectively protect C-Pep. And since you were there questions here; from your observation how much separation were the receivers really getting? Were there instances of adequate separation and open receivers that Daunte just hesitated throwing to or just out right did not notice them open for some reason?

i'll try to break it down... i'm sorry that in my frustration my thoughts are jumbled...

malarky isnt calling plays designed to break the blitz he is calling blind play action BS like on that first play that take way too long to execute

Culpeper needs to get rid of the ball... the D wasnt double covering today they werent playing max protect they were blitzing...

if that happens Cpep needs to throw it to single coverage... to keep the D honest...

if he has time he needs to do that deep... often...
but he doesnt.
cpep pulls down the ball and waits for a reciever to get wide open...

that is where cpep is hurting us.... just throw the damb ball

Yes, it is that bad. ...cause if it happens the first time and you end up with a 2nd and 19 instead of a 2nd and 10, you end up with another sack cause you're throwing trying to get out of it. And you're killing your offensive series.

Only 2 were because he held the ball too long though. The first sack, the guy was right in his face and he didn't see him. Once, he should have stepped up and got rid of the ball and didn't. Twice he just held it like a guy who's never played QB. The final time, the line just sucked.

Thank you! I'm glad you're one of the ones who "gets it" rather than placing the blame squarely on Daunte

That's great since that strategy almost cost them the game if not for a bad call on the 2 point conversion. Plus you forget when they scored the TD they were only down one score. Hope every team plays prevent when the dolphins get down a score. Funny it seemed like they were still blitzing at the end of the game.
