i was WRONG about Mr. Ross!

No way you can cave for fisher, all the fins players were watching this and will have more respect for the owner

Fisher deserves 0% control over personnel. He's the coach and should focus only on that. He needs to work on that coaching too as he's more likely to not have a winning season every year.

agreed. there was no reason to bend over for fisher despite what fans wanted. if it didnt work - we would be hearing again in a year or 2 how dumb ross was for letting fisher have part control.

you cant please everyone all the time,

and i agree with an above poster about the players - this does look more respectable. and i am SURE there are at least 2 guys we have interviewed so far that like what and who they see in miami and are salivating at the chance to get in here and make their mark rather than trying to get as much FO control as they can.

I'm sorry.. Im not excited about any of the "hot" coordinators out there.

Are there ANY that actually developed anything? call teir own plays?

Seems like they're all panzies.Zimmer? From Cincy? Did anyone just see what happened in the playoffs? Give me a break.

I want Billick.

Very true.. I want a coach that wants to be a Dolphins.. We need to move toward a offense like the Pats, Pack and Saints.. And Fisher wasn't going to do that for us.. Lets bring in Flynn and Philbin and see what happens..Go Fins

i humbly recant what i had earlier said about ross being a horrible business man with no balls.

Ross KNOWS that this team is in decent shape roster wise. He, Peterson and Ireland decided that we do NOT need/want a coach that is going to have personnel decisions. Esp a guy who is only average.

JJ, Parcells, Wanny, Saban, none of them worked either. So don't tell me we NEEDED to get fisher in here and fire ireland if thats what it took.

all these stupid media reports were pure garbage and speculation.

Ross NEVER offered fisher the world. NEVER. because he actually is standing on his principals and gut feeling.

we will see over the next few years that the fisher experiment in St Louis will FAIL.

all the speculation about "ross will fire ireland if he has to" "us fans wont buy tickets he'll see" ETC. was CRAP.

Ross IS a Shrewd and tough business man, and this is the first step in the right direction.

I agree, this is why I wasn't all that thrilled about the possibility of getting Fisher. When our defense ended the season as a top 10 unit, why would we want to completely change the philosophy? Also we are some cohesion along the O-line and a good QB away from being a really good team on the offensive side of the ball. I personally would rather an up and coming coach who will work to build on what we have already built, not one who is gonna tear it down and "rebuild it in his image". Also, why would we give Jeff freakin Fisher full control over personnel decisions??? He's not Bill Cowher (who didn't even make personnel decisions in Pittsburgh) who left at the height of their success and you'd mortgage the house to sign. Personally, I wouldn't want to give any HC full autonomy. How many of the great successful organizations have had a HC with full control? They may have had a strong say, but not final say.

Every one of Ireland's picks this year has contributed except Frank Kearse, who was signed off of our practice squad. All of his major free agent signings except Marc Colombo have payed dividends (e.g. Matt Moore, Kevin Burnett, Jason Taylor). All of the free agents he let walk has done virtually nothing on their respective teams. Despite this, he takes far more heat than some of the trash that we've had flow through here at GM. Why everyone seems to hate this guy so much is something I can't seem to understand. I could care less of what type of personality he has or what he asked Dez Bryant in a scouting interview. Just deliver the talent; And from what I can see, he's doing that.

In regards to the coordinatorys, I personally like what I was seeing from Brian Daboll this season, and most coordinators we hire as a HC probably won't fire him to bring in "their guy", unless maybe it's Philbin who's looking to completely change philosophies to a more West Coast style of offense. I don't know what the future will hold for Mike Nolan, as his contract is up, but I don't want to blow this whole thing up. We were competitive, and could've arguably won every game last year, with the exception of the New England game. A good QB and we were at least a 10-6 team this season.

The OP is 100% correct. An analagous situation would be Snyder and Shanahan in Washington. The veteran Super Bowl winning coach who has total control is failing abysmally. Or look at Belicheck's drafts since Pioli left. Or look at the Raiders' coach giving two #1's for a washed-up Carson Palmer. You simply can't risk giving a head coach that much authority of personnel. I applaud Mr. Ross for adhering to the correct business model for the organization, especially knowing how eager he was for a name coach who would benefit him economically by increasing ticket sales.

Zimmer was in the playoffs with a young team that lacks talent and a poor head coach in Marvin Lewis. The coordinators there (Z
immer and Gruden) got a lot out of a little. Zimmer by all accounts (players and fans in cinch) is an awesome leader who players stick there necks out for. Several people keep mentioning Billick but by all accounts he ISNT a candidate. Ross does not like him

I'm so glad we passed on Fisher.
His resume just did not impress me.
