I would give the "Mike Ditka Package" up for Eric Berry.

Steelers secondary has more issues than just Polamalu not being there.

Which were greatly exposed after Polamalu got hurt. All you did was prove my point further.

It's funny that they weren't panicking about their holes in the secondary before Polamalu got hurt.. only afterwards. They've had a top level pass defense for awhile (with a healthy Polamalu)

I seriously don't think some of you have watched Eric Berry. He is that good.

I would let Cam Wake, Charlie Anderson, and Paul Solali hold the fort down at their respective posistions if it meant that I'd have Eric Berry out there in center field.

While I'd like a young stud OLB, Just FYI: We didn't struggle to get pressure last year. Miami finished FOURTH in sacks. Yet, that didn't help us much at all.

Where we where killed OVER THE TOP. We have no back-end help. We sacked the Hell and hurried the hell out of alot of QB's. But couldn't cover shiat.

Gibril Wilson was THAT bad.

Maybe you watched Berry too much and didn't spend enough time watching the Dolphins. We didn't get CONSISTANT pressure on the QB last year. The sacks and pressure came in bunches but there were too many long periods of getting no pressure on the QB.

Yes, they traded up for him.. As the Steelers traded up for Polamalu.. It's called aggressiveness and those two players are the linchpins for those top level defenses... that's the bottomline.

Well rumors of a Ronnie Brown trade could help that.

So Miami creates another hole by trading Brown?

I mentioned another scenario.. read the thread.

Vernon Carey? Vernon Carey and the 12th pick is going to get you to #5? No way. Plus it opens even another hole

Well Pioli did give us a good deal for a very good backup QB like Thigpen... just for a 5th. Not sure if we would have gotten that deal for him if there was another GM in that seat... and knowing we were desperate for a backup QB at the time since Pennington had just gotten hurt.

If he's so good why was he third on the depth chart on a team that doesn't have a QB? He's ok. I'm sure Miami would trade him right now if someone would offer them a 5th.

Plus we are talking about the 5th pick in the draft not a backup QB. Even if Pioli did throw Parcell's a bone (which i dont agree with) with Thigpen, thats a worlds difference from "hooking" your father in law with the 5th pick in the draft

I never said they didn't like where they are. But if they can swing a reasonable deal, it would be foolish to not explore a generational talent like Eric Berry... and a guy that will make so many players around him better.... again, like adding 4 to 5 very good players to your defense

Listen: I agree that Berry is fantastic. Probably the best safety to come out in years. I would absolutely love for him be manning the FS spot for the next 10 years. Only problem is that this team has too many holes to be mortgaging off what assets they may have for one player.
Miami has major needs at OLB,FS, NT and to some extent LG.
I'd love Berry but it would just cost too much in my opinion

I wouldn't trade too much in an effort to move up an pick Berry. I also think Morgan/Graham/Hughes will be our 1st RD pick. But, you can scheme in pressure. The Jets are a great example. Their pass rushers are so bad that they just paid a 75 y/o $4 mil for one season. But, they pressured the QB a lot more than we did - didn't have as many sacks, but applied a lot more pressure, and their pass D was much better (not just because of Revis). Nolan knows how to apply pressure via scheme, and he knows how to put together great pass D's.

I would never give up that kind of deal for Berry and im not saying he isnt good but i dont care who it is that is just stupid to give up that kind of deal just look how it worked out for the saints

We can possibly fill our LG hole if Faneca is released (overrated as he is currently). We could also help fill the SOLB role with LaBoy or Adalius Thomas if he's released.

I'm just trying to piece together what the team looks like in both scenario's. I do know one thing; the only player I'd consider trading up for in this draft is Eric Berry.

Faneca is going to turn 35 I think, this regime won't sign someone that old.

LaBoy signed with San Francisco two days ago and Adalius Thomas hasn't done anything to make him a better prospect than Jason Taylor would have been not to mention his bad attitude and willingness to speak out against his coach during press interviews after games.
