i would love to see joey porter reunite with capers he played his best football under him.he brings a mean streak and hammers runningbacks into the ground..so he would be a great addition.but i would'nt mind donnie edwards who is a playmaking linebacker and said on cold pizza on thursday he would love to play with zach thomas.so who would you rather have dolfans i love edwards but my pick goes to porter now that he is available!

When did Porter play under Capers? Capers was with Pittsburgh from 1992-1994, and in 1995 he went to Carolina, then to Jacksonville in 1999 and 2000 then to Houston from 2001 to 2005, then to Miami.

Porter wasn't drafted by Pittsburgh until 1999 and has played there his entired acreer.

adalius thomas is going to sign with new england! that stinks!

I don't either of them fit in our defense. Joey Porter has played Will his entire career; which is open-end in our defense, and JT currently plays that position.

And Donnie Edwards has played ILB his entire career, which is occupied by Crowder and Thomas. They'd both have to learn new positions.

i wouldnt mind porter, but we have other pressing needs like a o-line which has either been cut or UFA as of today.............

 The positive about signing Porter is that if Culpepper does start (heaven forbid) Culpepper-to-Porter was far better than Culpepper-to-Chambers last year.

What about Edge Hartwell ? He was a tackle machine for the ravens..just had some injury troubles with the falcons, could be a cheap guy to pick up if his injuries are ok.

this definitly helps us regardless because it makes the market for OLB that much better, might be able to get d. edwards or cato june for cheap and then go spend money on the OL

I think that in many outlets, it had been reported that Joey Porter was the perfect fit for Miami's defense. He is a great OLB for a 3-4 defense, which Capers instituted in Pittsburgh. This following thread is fair example of it:

Porter is the one guy I truly want badly in free agency. However while Edwards is a great linebacker he would be a horrible fit on this team and I would cry myself to sleep.

A 3-4 defense is one that relies heavily on pressure from the linebacking core and especially on the outsides. To bring in Edwards that would push Crower to the OLB position full time when he should be an ILB. Last two seasons total Thomas, Crowder and Spragan only had 8.5 sacks combined. That is HORRIBLE in a 3-4. Edwards only had 2.5 sacks last year and Crowder only one.

A linebacking core of:

OLB: Crowder
ILB: Edwards
ILB: Thomas
OLB: Taylor

Looks great on paper, but in reality it would not be an improvement and is horrible when you take the scheme into account.

With a gun to my head I want Porter but I wouldn't mind either. Both play all out and give everything. Can't ask for anymore although with Porter here there might be a lot more pre-game fights!
