Maybe its good maybe it sucks....only way to find out is to float it out there and brainstorm.

A weekly "podcast" for FinHeaven.

The Miami Herald website has started doing them, only like 15-20 min long. I'm sure someone with a journalism or broadcasting degree/experience would be best for the job. And Im sure someone on this site has one.

Not one of these hour or so long internet radio show things (like the TerryTate blitz show or whatever its called). Just a 15-20 min podcast. Maybe some weeks get a guest, to talk with like David Hyde, Florio, Marvez...etc. (Herald probably wouldn't let those guys do other podcasts). I got those connections I could line those guys up for such things.

Also, probably would be best to make it only available to PREMIUM/VIP members also.

Let me know what you guys think? Good? Bad? Not worth the trouble?

I was thinking about Podcasts the other day, I was wondering how we would pull it off though.

And Mike, we can have both a radio show and a podcast ;)
 
Oh I know we can have both a radio show and a podcast. But I would keep them different. If you are doing a 1 hour or 2 hour Radio Show. Then I feel there is no need for a 1 hour podcast. It's overkill at that point.

I would keep the podcasts short. That's all I was saying. Plus, the radio show's are interactive with emails and calls. Where podcasts wouldn't be.

If you are wondering how to actually do them what software you need and stuff, it's easy.
 
This can be done. And we can integrate it into our coming RSS/XML feed.

When the season starts this site is hoppin almost every day.

I believe TerryTate's radio show is on Monday's. I would promote that heavy this year.

But come say Thursday or something a short 15-20 min podcast would be nice. Something to lead into the weekend. Like i said, maybe get a guest some weeks from one of the newspapers or what have you. Preview the upcoming game, talk about the last game. Short, sweet, nothing fancy but a new area for Finheaven to dive into.
 
I love the idea of a podcast for finheaven. I also think that adding it to an rss/xxml feed would be awsome.. do we have one already?? I also think that the podcast should feature a Premium members 60 second synopsis of any miami dolphins topic of his choosing

What I learned while doing PhinZone was when it comes to audio, not just anyone can do it. A "pro" or someone with "experience" is needed. Even if it just be a college student in broadcasting or whatever.

Just letting any premium member do it would be a mistake. Someone like Migs, TerryTate, or someone well spoken is needed.

Plus I learned you must prepare even if its only a 5 min one. Just thinking you will talk and talk as you are talking to a friend on the phone doesn't work. 5 min is longer than you think. Let alone 15-20.

Great idea. I personally like it a lot and would be something different that no other site... not even the official site... has done. :up:

In a 15-20 minute span it would be very possible to give a commentary peice on the upcoming game or something. While I agree it needs to be a professional hosting it, I don't think it would be a problem having someone record a peice of audio themself and then send it in to us... and then combine the clips together. IMO - that could make the community stronger. Maybe I'm wrong.

Only question to Mike and others in the know - can we use "game" clips over the audio? I know Matt uses some audio clips for The Blitz Report... would this be any different? If we could... it would make the podcast much, much stronger and professional. Let me know.
 
not sure on the "legality" of using clips. But if matt is using them on his show, I guess it's the same for the podcast and I don't see a problem.

I would be against just letting anyone send in an audio piece and use it. 1) you are then creating nothing more than a "sound off" line where any moron can tape something send it in and use it. 2) If you get 10 things sent in and only use 3 or 4, then you have just pissed off 6 or 7 people. 3) when people start hearing their voice on the site and their work being used, you are creating a monster. They will think their "value" to the site is greater than it actually is. And in the long-term (speaking from experience) everyone will want to be cheif and you will have no indians which eventually blows up in the long-run.
 
I would be happy to contribute, but I don't have the technology to produce such a thing.
