Pre-college football season, Quinn was a consensus 1st overall pick and possibly a Heisman Candidate. I don't know how he'd fare in the NFL but this is a completely reasonable draft scenario

Brady Quinn, QB Notre Dame

Al Davis loves big strong armed QB's and Russell fits that bill. The Lions admitted they aren't leaning toward drafting a QB in the 1st round because they have Dan Orlovsky on the bench already. The Browns are where he might go but Phil Savage always takes the best player available and this year its Calvin Johnson, not Quinn. The Buccaneers have two future QB's and desperately need to improve their pass rush. The Cardinals and Redskins also have their future QB's. Samething for Minnesota, they desperately need WR improvement versus a QB, they have Tarvaris Jackson. The Texans have a young QB in David Carr who they like (I don't know why) and unless they're giving up on him they're likely to take Adrian Peterson.

So that leaves us with Brady Quinn. What would you do? Take him at #9?

If Brohm comes out then its likely one of the 3 qb's falls to us. If thats the case I think we have to take one. Worst case is that Daunte comes back strong and wins the job out of preseason and we have the rookie qb learn behind him.
That makes Daunte's value go up and we would have 2 qbs, and one of them could be traded.

I'm not sold on Quinn as a solid pro prospect. Remember, he didn't do that much at Notre Dame before Charlie Weis got there and never played that well in big games. I would rather take a chance on Brohm. But I am not even sure they will take a QB at #9. They have so many needs.

It would create quite a stir if he slides like that. I would want to know why, but yeah, its might be hard to pass up.

Brady Quinn scares me. When I watch him, he reminds me of one former QB named Rick Mirer. A Notre Dame guy who was a flop in the NFL.

Quinn reminds me of Harrignton. And there's no way the Browns take Calvin after drafting Braylon two years ago, IMO.

Sometimes, I absolutely enjoy watching him. Other times, I think he is barely average. It is a toss-up. Kinda scary, actually, when it is brought up. I would not want to be the one making the decision if that scenario occurred.

** I'd much rather have Trent Edwards out of Stanford, anyway. I know he was injured for a good part of last season, but he has some good qualities about himself. I think I might have a man-crush....

I feel exactly the same way. I'm unsure also whether or not the Dolphins can afford to have another 1st round talent not succeed. It would waste another year of the careers of our older defensive talent. What do you think about Trent Edwards, who will be there in the lower rounds?

Trent Edwards

I edited and was thinking along the same lines....

I think that despite what has been reported in the press, Detroit is likely to take a QB. Minnesota could very well take a QB. I don't think they are set at the position by any means. Tbay may aslo go Qb, although I think it is unlikely. Carr's position in Houston has never been as tenuous as it is today. In addtion, there are numerous teams below the Dolphins that need a Qb, and I'm sure if Brady wasn't picked by 5, some would trade up.
I highly doubt that Quinn would fall to #9.

Why not? Colts have both Harrison and Wayne.

Exactly, and the Cardinals have Boldin and Fitzgerald. They would be set for years at WR with Braylon Edwards and Calvin Johnson. Plus, they have Kellen Winslow at TE. They would still need a QB and RB though.

Charlie Weis said that he feels that in 3 years Quinn will be one of the top QBs in the NFL, and he is a pretty good judge of QB talent.

I think the Browns DO draft Calvin Johnson. The only other name mentioned possibly going to the Browns is Adrian Peterson if he declares.

Imagine Johnson alongside Edwards in the Cleveland lineup. Charlie Frye is still a promising long-term answer at QB for them. If they ever got their running game together...watch out AFC North...

We should be so lucky...
