Will he be better than Jim BAtes? I thought BAtes did a tremendous job here? What other teams did CApers Run the D for i know he was head coach of CArolina

Thanks

bates was so overrated as far as actually being an D-Cordinator. hes got a great heart, can get a lot out of the players, is well liked, and hes a players coach, but as far as being a D-Cordinator? not really that good.

I agree with Nappy Roots. Bates had a lot of great players to work with when he was with Miami, but his schemes were very predictable. Dom Capers is a MUCH better defensive coordinator than Jim Bates.

agree totally. One thing that characterized Bates and Wanny. ZERO ability to adjust the vanilla defense at halftime.

Totally agree. Also, look at GB this year. For awhile this year the media was saying how good he'd done with their D and they were better statistically, but they were still losing. It is a vanilla D that always seems to give up a couple more points than the other team.

We never blitzed or did anything risky on defense during the Wanny years. Bates was good but Capers could be a better fit.

He is a good d-cord. He was not using his schemes in Miami. His job was to run JJ's and Wanny's scheme. Notice how it got more creative when Wanny retired.

Green bay does not have a secondary. The D is not vanilla. Just because it is a 4-3 does not mean it is just a straight up D. People get Bates and JJ confused a lot.

I agree 100%. Bates is not a "great" DC by any means. He's a good DC who has a great relationship with his players and his players want to work with him, not to mention the caliber of players he's worked with over the years here (Madison, Taylor, Zach, Surtain, etc.).

Dom Capers would instantly become a top 3 DC in the league.

he is a good one. i said he wasnt THAT good. meaning, not great.

Capers has the experience and knowledge of the 3-4 defensive scheme. Ran it in Pittsburgh and with the Texans. That's got to be appealing to Saban and would make him a good fit for what Miami is trying to do.

I think Capers was the one who developed the zone blitz for the Steelers when he was there. And they used it very effectively. I believe he is already in the top 2 or 3 as a D coordinator. Would be a great addition to our staff. Pay him what it takes to get him here. Like Saban said, there is no salary cap on coaches.
