Just a thought, if we do sign a QB like Drew Brees, and Frerotte doesn't end up negotiating with us to take the huge pay cut, will there be a chance of Brock Berlin making the roster? I like Brock Berlin, and I think he would fit nicely as a 2nd or 3rd string backup. Also, he wouldn't be expensive (million dollars on cap wise), unlike Frerrote who hasn't agreed to any negotiations as of yet.

I think Gus sees the handwriting on the wall. He does not have a lot of leverage....either he takes less money or he is likely gone. I would hope we keep Gus as a backup and bring in a FA to start next year.

Frerotte will restructure but if he doesn't than he only gets cut if we get someone like Brees. he is the only QB with knowledge of our system who's currently on the team and he would need to manage the offense until our rookie gets ready. we won't need a high round rookie QB if we get Brees.

in the case you mentioned we get Brees so we cut Frerotte if he doesn't restructure. than we bring in Tim Couch and/or McCown along with Berlin and Lemon to compete for the 2 back-up spots

But dont forget that Linehan is gone and we will have a new playcaller. And Gus may have been part of our winning streak but he is washed up get rid of him!!

with all these QB's coming into free agency gus is finding out his leverage is slowly dissapearing. i can't believe SD resigned AJ Feeley for almost 2mil. a year, there crazy. did spielman get hired over ther or what. I hope we go after brees aggressively,if not i like bulger{but no more than a 2nd rd} or hope favre is let go cause he would do really well with us for 1-2 years.

IT would be great if we could keep Gus as a backup. I doubt you could find a better backup QB in the league. Unless you want Fielder back. The Jets just officially released him.

Geez, Brock-with-all-the-talent-in-the-world-around-me-and-I-still-can't-get-the-job-done Berlin ??? No thanks...He's at best a project for another year barring a miraculous season in NFLE....

I think Berlin could be our 3rd stringer next season.I think Saban likes him alot.I dont see him as nothing more then a #3 at best but u never no.

In the scenario you gave, I would want to retain Sage. We wouldn't have any playing experience behind Brees if it were just Lemon and Berlin.

I can't see Sage staying with the team. I think he would have already been resigned if Saban really wanted him to stay.

berlin wont beat out lemon. Have you seen Lemon play?
