I'm going to snap. We have played two preseason games. Last year at this time, there was no winner. In fact, all through preseason, Fiedler and Feeley were even. When it came time to play games that actually mattered, Fielder was 1-9 and Feeley was 3-5. If Frerotte starts, I have no doubt that he'll be replaced soon.

I cannot think of a single good reason why Frerotte should start. Common sense tells you that if these guys are at all close - and they clearly are - the younger guy should start. If we don't play Feeley, we're not going to get *anything* of value for him. Frerotte, to start, needs to be head and shoulders above Feeley, and there's absolutely no indication of that in two preseason games.

Wait until Week 5 of the preseason to make this judgment.

Grab your straight jacket, go to your padded room. You just started another debate. A senseless one too. It looks to me like the only person who matters has all but mad eup his mind. Gus will start. And he deserves to. He is better than Feeley. Sage may even end up ahead of Feeley. The debate is all but over.

Let's debate this!...

That's just my point. People were debating all of this before either guy had even thrown a ball in a practice uniform. Now that they have been practicing and throwing, they're more or less even. We've known this, and it's pretty evident from their career accomplishments.

All I'm saying is that 1) the QB competition is just getting started, not getting finished, 2) the depth chart is just a shade above meaningless right now, and 3) Frerotte needs to have a very clear and very prominent advantage over Feeley to be the starter.

Frerotte has such a clear and obvious advantageover Feeley that Sage may even move ahead of Feeley on the depth chart.
Any how long do you expect Saban to wait to name the starter? Until the week before the first game? It's good that the decision is basically a done deal. This way, the starter will get the majority of the snaps and get even more comfortable with the recievers. Gus is clearly the better choice and with more snaps with the first team, will be even better. I'm afraid AJ has reached his pinnacle.

Sort of like the 87 QB rating vs the 45 QB rating....I'd call that a pretty prominent advantage.

The battle should be over and not just starting so the team and everyone on this board) can put this behind them and move on.

Oh, and for the record, I really wanted Feeley to WIN this job, but he's not getting it done.

We want to know who our starting QB will be going into our first game. We will get that by watching Frerotte or Feeley during pre-season. If they do well or bad then they will be judged accordingly. i dont have a problem with the debates going on because its a major issue! granted its only pre season but do u want to see this QB battle going into our first game. I think not.

Why would we want anything of value from him? We wasted a 2nd round pick, deal with it.

Where is Frerotte's clear advantage? I haven't been to camp, but I've seen both preseason games. I saw no advantage. They're pretty much even. Thompson dropped a pass, and Newson made no attempt to get the ball that ended up being an interception. Besides, I'm more than willing to discard anything that happens in the second half of a preseason game.

Frerotte might have a *slight* advantage, but nothing that warrants him starting over a guy 6 years his junior. Where are we going with a 34 year-old has been at QB? We're not going to the Super Bowl. We're going to have to draft a quarterback next year without question. We're selling out on Feeley, and either keeping him as a higher-priced backup or trading him with drastically decreased value (he's a backup now, and not a starter).

I don't see the logic in the move even IF Frerotte is better, and I say there's no chance that that's clear at this point.

Let preseason play out. Let me play the part of devil's advocate here.

1) Feeley dealt with Lee and Thompson dropping his passes, Newson giving up on the ball, and a waste of space in Lamar Gordon.

2) Frerotte has gotten lucky with his one touchdown - a pass he said he wasn't even throwing to Gilmore, who made a circus catch anyway.

I'd be willing to bet most of that has to do with the QB rating.

"Where are we going with a 34 year-old has been at QB?"

Frerotte was never a has been... More like a "Never Was"!

He was a Pro Bowler 10 years ago with mediocre stats because the NFC had nobody worthwhile at QB.

I trust Saban to make the right decision as far as selecting the QB starter but I can honestly say that if he just hands the job over to Gus right now based on what he's seen so far (and let me emphasize "so far") I will be a little disappointed based on the reasons stated above!

Gus is just a better QB. Whether you like it or not, that is the fact. Saban knows it. Gus' teammates know it. You're just pissed off because your personal choice isn't going to be behind center. So Gus is mediocre - no doubt that is true. But mediocre beat out your boy AJ. That pretty much sums up the amount of skill Feeley has and how big a waste it was giving up a 2nd rounder for him. Next year we'll get another QB in here. But for now, like it or not, Gus is the best QB on the roster. And I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say that he will have one of the better seasons of his career this year.
