an old adage that is so true in many circumstances. Saban's QB and offense was running very good and he went and tried to fix it with CP and JH and now look at where they are. He should have stuck with Frerotte and tried to spend that money on the OL and secondary. That's why the fins are 1-6 (now 6-8). Here's a good article by Hugo Guzman that says this:

http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/2006/10/dolphins-frerotte-harrington301006.html

Saban might be brilliant but he screwed up big time by getting rid of Frerotte.

GO PHINS~!

Nonsense, Frerotte was HORRIBLE last year. QB play was the reason we missed the playoffs last year, it was the #1 thing to upgrade.

Gus chose to leave when we acquired DC to be the un-contested starter.

I would've taken Gus back for a backup but not the starter. He wanted to be a starter so that is why he went elsewhere. Plus he wanted to stay with Linehan

I was hoping Gus would stick around to play backup to Culpepper because of the continuity it would give us on offense.

It wasnt to be as Gus thought he had earned the right to start.Plus he had some bitterness towards the Dolphin fans because of the way his family was treated in Miami.

He decided to follow Linehan to the Rams which is understandable even though it looks like he will be mired as a backup.

I liked Gus. And there is no denying that he outplayed any QB on our roster right now. Not saying he was great, but worse QBs have lead their teams to Super Bowl wins.

Are you kidding? Nobody will confuse Gus Frerotte for Tom Brady but he played admirably last year. I liked the acquistion of DC (and still do) but going for Joey instead of keeping Frerotte was a mistake (hindsight is always 20/20).
Frerotte managed the game very well last year. He didn't make the big mistakes (INTs, sacks) which has plagued our Qbs this year. True, he didn't make a lot of big plays last year, but it's not as if DC and JH are tearing it up this year.
Frerotte gave the team a chance to win every week. He showed a trmendous understanding of the offense and was well aware of his limits. That can't be said about our QBs this year.
I'm not suggesting that all the Dolphins' woes are due to QBs, but they have been significant contributors.

No I am not kidding! Frerotte had a rating of 71.9 for the season which made him the 28th ranked QB last season, 1 behind Joey Harrington who had a 72.0 rating for the season and got benched in Detriot.
Last season we lost a lot of close games and if Gus had been even competent in those game we could have won them. The games against the Falcons, Bills and Jets spring to mind.
He was absolutely shocking in some games which people seem to have forgotten....

Situation G QBRat Com Att Pct Yds Y/G Y/A TD Int
vs Cleveland 1 39.6 4 18 22.2 53 53.0 2.9 0 0
vs Kansas City 1 37.3 11 29 37.9 125 125.0 4.3 0 1
vs Atlanta 1 51.9 13 22 59.1 103 103.0 4.7 0 1
vs NY Jets 2 56.7 28 59 47.5 253 126.5 4.3 2 2
vs Buffalo 2 60.9 33 61 54.1 341 170.5 5.6 2 3
vs Carolina 1 66.6 14 33 42.4 171 171.0 5.2 2 1

Thats half the season right there were we went 3-5, despite Frerotte being absolutely HORRID. We actually won games inspite of Frerotte, not because of him.
At the end of last season I had no doubt that the #1 priority was to upgrade the QB play. It kept us from making the playoffs last season, no doubt about it in my mind.

PHANATICAL:

saban ISNT brilliant!! if he was , he wouldnt have made the
blunders you mentioned [and i agree with].

this is exactly what god should have done, kept frerrote,
signed or drafted a backup and let the chips fall where
they would.

the o-line was playing lights out, and saban shuffled almost
everything. now, outside of one guy, the o-line is back
where it was and is looking much improved.

saban KILLED the secondary, and he is supposed to be some
expert in that department.

BRILLIANT guys dont do these things. and there teams dont tank,
they get better each year.

nick spurrier = dim bulb, not brilliance!!

If we don't fix the OL, it wont matter who the QB is next year.....

Assuming we can go out and find some better talent up front{OL} during the off-season, our QB situation wouldn't look so bad. The entire offense would improve as a result, and guys like Brown / Ricky would be able to carry our offense much easier...

The current state of the OL is killing us more than anything. We can't run at all, and the protection has been horrible every week in my opinion. Sure, having a quick decision maker like Harrington has helped cut back on the sacks, and lost field position, but he's still hurrying his throws, and that's causing the INT's. If our QB's had a stable OL in front of them, I think our offense would be just fine. Unfortunatley, they dont.....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

Saban does do some strange things. As Red pointed out he revamped the secondary which is now far worse, rearrranged the O-Line making it far worse, Tried to revamp our offense with a Veteran QB and now they are far worse. Honestly I would have preferred to see Frerrote here another year and drafted a QB.

I think the team would be much better off if we had just stuck with what we had and continued to build through the draft, releasing Vets along the way.

Making these wide sweeping changes killed the cohesiveness the team had at the end of last year.
