If it was your choice, tannehill or weeden?

I mentioned this in another thread but it seems appropriate here too:

So maybe im looking at this the wrong way but Tannehill is going to be 24 when the season starts and by almost everybodys account will need a couple of years before he is ready to play. At which time he will be 26 or older depending on how long he takes to evolve and mature as a player. Brandon Weeden will be 28 when the season starts. Besides Andrew Luck is the most NFL ready player and has as good a skill set as a legitimate top 10 pick should have.

So with only but a two year difference in terms of expected age of NFL starting, why wouldnt it be more reasonable to go with the guy who is already a top 10 talent in terms of skill and readiness instead of reaching for a guy who a number of weeks ago was seen as a mid 2nd round pick and is only soaring up the charts due to qb starved teams being desperate. If Weeden was Tannehill's age there wouldnt be a question of who to pick. Weeden would almost assuredly be a top 10 pick(maybe top 5) and would be seen as the answer to our qb woes.

So it seems to be that if as projected, there would only be a 2 or 3 year difference in terms of when they would be starting, why not go with the far superior prospect. Im not advocating taking Weeden at 8. I would much rather trade down if possible and grab some extra picks.

As i said, i might be looking at this wrong but it seems at least something to ponder to me. Something about reaching for Tannehill at 8 doesnt rest well with me

I have to agree with this. I see Weeden in the late 1st or second as a value pick. He is very well a top 10 talent that will drop solely due to his age. If he can come in and lock down the QB position for 6-8 years then that is more than we can say for any QB since Marino. There is still some risk involved but I'd much rather take a chance on Weeden late 1st or 2nd than go Tannehill at 8. I think if we stay in the 8 spot then taking a QB is just not the right move.

Is no one else worried about Weeden coming from a spread offense? havent only a few QB's suceeded coming from a college spread system? Ive heard some critisims of weedens lack of foot work

I think in Shermans mind its Tannehill first. Weeden is a very good second. I will be happy if we can get one of them and forgive the FA period. I also like Cousins.

Tannehill is not worth a first round pick he's a second, third round prospect that will end up being reached. If we select him it will remind me of when we selected Ted Ginn Jr. honestly.

If both players are available in the second round you have to go with Weeden.

Newsflash...no need to panic, if Ireland´s plan Was Weeden all the way, we are still in play, and might be picking one of the best QBs in this draft. 6-8 years? Hell, Peyton is 36 and still kickin´it, if Weeden hits it in the pros, Ireland will look as a genius!

I would be quite happy with Tannehill (because of Sherman's insider info, an offensive mind I trust), Weeden (A person who could step in sooner and has extremely promising skills), OR Osweiler (a superior set of skills that can be groomed, kind of like a poor man's Jamarcus Russell physically but with the ability to have time to grow mentally).

That said, you KNOW Ireland will get "cute" and will draft someone else who was on no one's radar because he thinks he is smarter than everyone else. Can't help but see us drafting someone like Nick Foles, who I think is going to be a complete train wreck from start to finish in the NFL.
