Well, nothing against Jim Bates but if we kept him as a head coach we would have the same predictable defense and who would be our offensive coordinator.
I would imagine another crappy season under Jim Bates and then Ricky would not come back, Ronnie Brown probably wouldn't be drafted, he would probably draft Pacman Jones for his predictable defense...
Spielman would still be the GM and Feeley would probably start for sure and probably Gordon our starting running back.
I would imagine Marc Trestman our offensive coordinator and Jerry Sulivan still on board. Probably, Tony Wise would quit anyways and we would hire someone esle not Houck.

Anyways, I'm glad we didn't keep Jim Bates because even if he is a great guy, he wasn't the right person for this turnaround..

Your opinion on what Jim Bates would do if he was still on Board?

that's quite a lot of stuff against him...

The reason things are looking up for this franchise is because of the good work that Saban has put in since his hiring.

The chances are that our roster, coaching and draft would look weaker - but that is a compliment to Saban, he has done a heck of a job for a rookie HC/GM.

I dont know wat would of happened
U think we would of got Ronnie with Bates? I see Jim a good DC and thas it, i do wish him well, but were good with Saban and i really didnt want Bates as coach, good post

Bates would have done a good job as head coach. Imo he would have let the offense run loose and mix it up.

I think the defensive scheme would have changed more than people think. Wanny had a big hand the defensive scheme. Bates would have made the defense more unpredictable (blitzes, tiger stunts, etc.) But, it would be basically the same defense.

I think he would have brought in his own defensive coaches and either promote Trestman to OC or find the best available option and give them control over the offense.

However, I am much happier and pleased with what Saban is doing. I think we are extremely lucky to have him as our coach. Saban is doing things that Bates would not have done. I love that Bates turned our season around the last 4 games, but I'm completely sold on Saban's gospel and can't imagine what we would do without him. Saban was the man for the Job.

we threw the ball more downfield while he was headcoach....he worked with what he had...we would have had the same boring defence but who knows what would change on offense...he is a good headcoach. your right about one thing...he wasnt the man for our turnaround but he will make some team very happy

I also don't think Bate's would have persuaded Ricky to come back.

Saban didn't get Ricky to come back, owing 8 million dollars did.

Don't think ricky returning has to do with anything other than $$$$

The number one reason why Bates was a good choice is that the players beleived in him, backed him, and wanted to play for him. Everything else is just details IMO.

If I owed 8mil$ I'd consider coming back too. But Saban did have a hand in his return. Ricky said it himself.

I'm sure a fresh start made it more appealing, but I don't think Ricky had much of a choice.

Bates ALREADY WAS doing a good job for the few games that he was head coach for. Waay better than Wanny that's for sure. But I'm still VERY glad we got Saban. I didn't know what we were in for beforehand. Saban is WAAAAAY better than I ever imagined. I just don't seee toooo much changing if Bates would have stuck around. Such as Tony Wise and the Defensive PHilosophy ...Glad for Linehan, Glad for Houck, and glad all around.

Exactly. Ricky will either show he is willing to work his a** off or Saban will boot him. We win either way. Anyway, back on topic. Imo the defensive leaders would have a strong influence in Bates' scheme.

Dude your just dissing him cause hes not here. Bates is a very smart defensive coordinator....its not our scheme that lets up its out defense

Outside of Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, and Sam Madison we dont have any real stars but we have lots of people now that when formed together could be very dangerous

Kevin Carter
Matt Roth
Travis Daniels

the players played really hard for bates and the team played well considering they were already eliminated from the playoffs...the miami dolphins franchise needed to go in an entirely different direction and nick saban was the right man for the job...we needed someone from the outside who had no ties to anyone in the organization...bates will get a head coaching job especially if he improves that awful green bay defense...
