If Josh McCown is named the starter. . .

I expect Josh to start the season due to his experience and the new regime's desire to get a few wins under their belt before everything self-destructs like last season. However, I don't see that as a signal that he's beaten out JB, only that Sporano and crew want JB on the sidelines for awhile backing up a QB whose name is not Cleo Lemon. On the other hand, if we're .500 or worse after 8 games and Beck isn't brought in to start, then I would be reading some negative connotations into THAT!

I watched McCown play against the Broncos and I thought he played really well. He has pretty good mobility in that if you fall asleep on him, he will often run ten+ yards.....but he does at times hold onto it a little long when in the pocket. I think he has an above average arm and he plays with injuries. I think his thumb or hand was injured in the Broncos game and he still played well. The Raider's OL, and Gallery at LT, didn't give him much time to throw it so I think you cannot fault him for many sacks. I would give him an edge over Beck to start this year.

Gallery played guard on a poor Oakland O-line (decent run blocking, very bad pass protection).

Josh will start the first 8 games if Beck isn't starting after that then we can say goodbye to the beck era ... either traded or backup ...what would be worse is if we draft a qb and he starts the last eight games

If he starts that means he won the job and I will support him. I am pulling for Beck but really don't care. McCown like all QB's that get to the NFL level has what it takes. It's just a matter of finding the right system and franchise to succeed. He may turn into our Rich Gannon meaning he developed a little later than some QB's but became a great player.

McCown can basically be summed up in 6 words

exceptional when on, terrible when off.

I don't know a lot about McCown but this is exactly what I have concluded. He is still fairly young so maybe our staff can get him straight as I am sure that his problems are all in his head and not a talent issue.

If McCown wins the job, I would be SHOCKED. Beck is mature and has better tools than him . . . and I really would be upset. Don't get it twisted, I will be rooting my azz off for McCown, but I would very dissappointed in John Beck. However, this has crossed my mind before . . . Beck is shorter and has smaller hands . . . I think Parcells is gonna want to build that running game (Jake Long is the pick) . . . and give less emphasis on the pass pro, meaning he needs a QB that is a bit more mobile . . . which John Beck can be mobile . . . but who also can take a hit and HOLD ON to the ball . . . I am not so sure if he is that type of QB . . . but we will see.

I see people saying McCown is better than Lemon . . . they are kind of similar, McCown a bit smarter, Cleo a bit more mobile . . . IMO McCown is Cleo . . . and we both know that neither is a starter . . . only a starter on a team with a QB injury, or a team that needs a QB, and if McCown is the starter on this team . . . Beck is not the answer or he got hurt.

I hope your wrong on that one.

Me too, hell I hope he proves me wrong . . . anything is possible . . . but I didn't mind Cleo as a backup QB . . . some people thought he shouldn't be in the NFL . . . but I think he is a servicable backup, and a good pickup by Jville. Same hold true for McCown . . . I thought it was a SMART pickup by Parcells.

I never really liked Cleo for some reason. He never seemed to have what it takes and had plenty of time to show something IMO. If I had a team I would have him 3rd string. I am a strong beleiver that everyone that gets to the NFL has the talent and just need the right system and situation to suceed. Even Ryan Leaf and Heath Shuler could have been successful in differant situations IMO. Maybe McCown, whom has shown promise, can get it all together for us. I'm pulling for Beck becaus eof financial and drat purposes but I can't say I will too upset if someone else wins the job as long as they are best for our team in the games.

Josh McCown is not a franchise QB in my opinion for many reasons. For one, he can't stay healthy and he's not a starting quarterback. He's shown some slight signs of potential considering the teams he has played for (ARI, DET, OAK). With all of that being said, in my opinion he is the favorite to be our starting QB over Beck at this point in time. That could easily change with a FA acquisition or draft pick, along with getting beaten out by Beck in Training Camp as a possible scenario. If McCown does start for us, I would rank him behind the likes of Fiedler, Griese, Frerotte, but ahead of say Lemon, Feeley, and Harrington. I wouldn't include Trent or Sage because I don't feel they really got a fair shot, neither did Griese for that matter. I'm basing all of this on how these players have performed for us. I think McCown would be a good backup for us but nothing more. Hopefully Beck turns out to be a pleasant surprise.

It doesn't matter to me who starts as long as they play well. I've heard that Beck has been working very hard this off season. Rumor has it he took 4 days off at the end of the season and has been working at the Dolphins facility since. As I understand it the coaching staff feels that McCown still has an upside. McCown is athletic and that will help him as the O-line tries to pull together. I think eventually the job will be Beck's.

He's better than Cleo Lemon. I mean, he has heart and intensity, a tough guy. He's got a strong enough arm, but I don't see Josh McCown being anything more than what he already is. A decent backup quarterback that can start some games when called upon.

He's better because he's a blonde.
