Do you guys think ex Steeler defensive FA's become more of a priority then others to ease the transition into his type of defense.

It just so happens that a couple make huge sense for us anyways like C.Hampton NT and R.Clark FS but even L.Foote ILB would help. Alot of coaches that join other teams seem to like to bring in some of their own. Hampton would be a great pick up, Clark atleast is a true FS and Foote is a much better ILB then Akin. This would help bring the attitude Pittsburghs defenses usually play with aswell which we sorely need.

If it's an uncapped season I could see them bring in Foote, then draft another ILB they really want like McClain/Spoon and cut/trade Crowder. I find it funny that there's a FA from Pitts at each position we need help at on defense.

What do you guys think, Pittsburgh FA's or does it really not matter - of course this all depends on if Butler gets hired!

Maybe, just maybe this would breathe new life into J.Porter aswell!!!

I guess a lot depends on whether these guys are restricted or unrestricted free agents. I think Hampton is a beast when properly motivated and at a good weight, but he's got a few miles on him too. Foote is just a solid LB. Probably more consistent than the guys we have now. I really like Ryan Clark, but I know the Steelers do too. I just don't see them letting him walk away.

I do agree with you that any of these guys would be an upgrade over what we have, and Butler would at least have an inside knowledge on how these guys would fit in our system.

That would be nice! I think thats something this team has been missing for a while a NASTY DEF ala Balt, Pitt, and sadly NY Jets. These are all scarry Def to go up against, and we need that here in Miami. Clark is up there in age i think 30, but he would be a way better fit then Wilson, this would help Clemons get more time to develope into the position. L.Fotte is a Lion, and although I think he is also an upgrade over Akin, is he a FA?? Hampton NT would be the icing on the cake because we would not be forced to take a NT in the draft so early like Cody or D.Williams, and could address ILB, OLB, and WR early in the draft. This would be NICE!!!! But like spiff mentioned, lets keep Crowder please hes not as bad as most people think!

You do realize Foote doesn't play in Pittsburgh any longer right?

I do hope that if we sign him that doesn't mean Porter is a lock to come back.

We would almost certainly end up overpaying for Hampton but if they're going to stick with 3-4 then there may be no other option

Ryan Clarke would be a nice stop gap addition at FS. At his age, the most we would get out of him would be two seasons, but it would then allow Clemons to develop, instead of throwing him in when he is not ready.

Im not sure what his contract is, but Foote plays for the Lions now.. And didnt have too bad of a season

I want Hampton an keep Crowder he will be a good/great #2 ILB on a team. Just like Bart Scott was in Baltimore and is with the Jets.

Ahh... 3rd..., a breath of fresh air... Not sure that Foote isn't signed already with Detroit like D13 said

No No No.

Butler would also come from a Steelers philospiphy of building through the draft, not signing older big name players on big money for what they have previously acheived.
