Current draft order at the top:

1. Houston Texans have David Carr - D'Brick Ferguson
2. New York Jets have Pennington - Reggie Bush
3. San Francisco 49ers have Alex Smith - AJ Hawk
4. Green Bay Packers have Favre and drafted Aaron Rodgers - Haloti Ngata
5. Tennessee Titans would draft Leinart
6. Arizona Cardinals
7. New Orleans Saints
8. Baltimore Ravens
9. Miami Dolphins
10. Buffalo Bills

So, if Leinart would fall to #5, and is sitting there on the clock for the Titans, do we make a call? I say absolutly. Moving from #9 to #5 wouldn't be all that costly either.

#5 = 1700
#9 = 1350

That means we could trade our #9 overall, and our second rounder (490 points) to get to 5. Maybe even get their 4th or 5th as well.

I know this is all speculation, and in no way will happen like this, but it is interesting to look at at this point in the season. And remember, this is with no Quinn or Young declaring. If they both come out, things are really looking good at getting a QB round 1.

Who ever wants Leinart will probably trade with Houston for to take him #1.

i can see te Saints, Jets, Titans, Cards all taking a look at Leinart.....i dont think Titans trade this pick to us..when they would just take him...

IF that were to happen I think the Titans would sent the card out at 14:59. No way they pass him up.

it may only seem like your moving from #9 to #5, but they would force the fins to WAY over pay for a trade. and i dout they woudl even think about a trade if leinart is there.

but somone will trade up to get him. he wont make it past #3.

Yea, Leinart not going in top 2 sounds absurd at this point. There is going to be somebody high enough on the board wanting to grab him. There is also a lot of talk about Houston just ditching Carr and taking Leinart themselves...lets hope they do and we pick him up.

I agree, I just dont see the best qb in the draft droping to the 5th pick. Especialy when you hear scouts saying he is one of the best prospects in a while.

Ideal scenario:

1. Houston Texans - Reggie Bush (RB - USC)
2. San Francisco 49ers

Miami Dolphins - Somewhere between 3 and 10 (The lower the better)

If the Texans do not dump Carr before April, everybody will know they're not going to take Leinart. In that case, one would think that they would almost surely take Reggie Bush or trade down with somebody who wants him. Since the 49ers have Alex Smith they will not be interested in Leinart either, so why bother trying to move up to number one to get Leinart when you can move up to number two to get him?

If the Texans were to take Bush, the 49ers would probably be willing to trade down from number two since they won't be interested in Leinart. Depending upon where we pick, they might consider giving up the spot for our 2006 first-round pick, 2007 first-round pick, 2007 third-round pick and Ricky Williams. It's a steep price to pay, but I think it's obviously worth it if Matt Leinart blossoms into a franchise QB like Eli Manning (first overall pick in 2004) and Carson Palmer (first overall pick in 2003 and Leinart's predecessor at USC) have.

In any case, it's very unlikely that Matt Leinart will fall any further than the second overall pick.

I hope the Texans take Bush and the Jets take Leinart. One, I don't want to see Bush twice a year and two, I would love to see the Jets sink more money into the qb position at the neglect of other positions. I don't see this regime trading down for picks. I believe if they would have gotten the right deal they would have traded out of the 2 spot last year. I think this group prides itself on finding gems in lower rounds and would like to collect as many picks as possible. No way they forfeit picks to trade up.

I think it all depends on if Quinn and Young come out. If one or both of them come out and we feel we can stay put and get one I think you stay put. If not you make the call, see if they are going to be reasonable and if they are, make the trade. Chow would probably love to get Leinart, but they have Volek and have alot of needs. So trading down may be an option.

The problem with trading is that we have some big needs in the upcoming few drafts and QB is only part of the problem. I'm all for getting a franchise (appearing) QB in the next draft, I just don't know if it'll be worth selling the farm to buy the best cow.
