1st off I think that he is going to retire so this is moot.

2nd I think Ross is making a pathetic attempt to try to build some excitement.

3rd even if manning does not retire he will want to go to a team that has a shot at a superbowl next year a team like the 49ers IMO.

4th how many times are we going to play the "We are only a qb away card?" The team should have been dismantled last time around and once again it looks like we are in perpetual win right now mode WHICH DOESNT FREAKING WORK...

Ross is a joke and so is his boy Ireland if he thinks for a second that manning will want to come here...

Its finally time to think long term. If you cant get a QB 1st round then draft one later on but build the team so that in 3 years we have a chance, it took the cowboys 3 years to go from chumps to champs (not to mention a really dumb trade with the Rams.) time to look at New england and start doing what they are doing because they have gone more then the peyton led colts FOR A REASON!!!

I don't care. IF Manning is healthy and we get him, we have 3 legitimate years of being a Super Bowl contender. I will take that without question.

2-3 years from Manning as an F/A and drafting Tannehill at #9 to learn behind Peyton can easily make this a long-term solution.

how did our secondary hold up against brady week 1?

Why would sanfran dump Alex smith?

The 49ers are not going to be signing a high dollar QB. They are "all in" with Alex Smith for next year.

do you think Manning wants to play for a team that has ZERO shot at a Superbowl for the next few years. <---The Dolphins

The 49ers were just the team I thought of that manning improves immediately and used them as an example. I did say I think he will retire.

Manning wants to win a superbowl, he would go to the jets before he came here...WE ARE NOT THAT CLOSE...would I enjoy seeing him here, yes. Do we win the superbowl with him w/o some serious help? NO.

In short, putting it in the paper that we want him is NOTHING MORE THAN A SAD ATTEMPT TO GET POSITIVE PUBLICITY since you hired a pretty boring name...
You know, if it gets a Super Bowl win, I am all for it.
do you think he brings a superbowl? Do you think we are just one player away again LIKE WE HAVE BEEN FOR APPARENTLY 25 years?

Assuming Manning is ready to go, the real question should be "how would NE's secondary hold up against Manning twice a year?"

Assuming he passes a physical and is healthy and all that, that's 3-4 years of almost instantly being a superbowl contender, and if you're worth your weight in salt as a gm, Ireland should be able to find another Q.B in that period of time.

Manning could easily man the position for atleast 3 years.

Hell Draft Tannehill this year for you developmental qb.

Wherever Manning goes that team is instantly a Super Bowl contender. Yes one man like him makes the difference. Did you not see how Indy was this year without him? He is one of the greatest to ever play the game. Players like him make teams contenders. And I don't care if we only have him for 3 years. That's 3 years of a possible Miami Dolphins Super Bowl.

OH MY GOD this is getting ridiculous.

People are now criticizing Stephen Ross for wanting Payton Manning????

This is getting downright ridiculous.
