I hate to play the 'what if' game but if Marino was hired instead of Parcells. If we outbid CBS, different owner (), whatever way it happened. Do you think Miami would be so desperate for a new QB this off season & now? Who would Dan have pursued in free agency or draft?

What will be will be in dolphins world, the only sports team i really care about. I know this. I just wish we were the fans right now saying "Goodluck to ____ on manning, because we have _____!!! Greatest ever blah blah blah!!"

You sucked Parcells. Thanks for nothin.

Marino never struck me as a GM type. He was a great quarterback. I seriously doubt if he would even be an average talent evaluator. Not the type of guy I envision to put in all the hours and travel to do it.

So we're playing the "if" game, eh?

IF my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

What does Dan know about scouting?? It is a big assumption to think he would be a great GM.

I think if Marino was in the Dolphins organization, Manning would already be a Dolphin.

whos to say marino doesn't scout players all the time? we have 600 ppl here on finheaven who think they would make great scouts and gms, why should anyone say marino is any different?

For some reason Marino doesn't want to be a part of this organization. He had his chances, two in fact. He just doesn't want to support the Dolphins and that's the simple truth.

I disagree with that. Marino does not want the long drawn out hours that type of job requires.

why can't he even say "come on down to Miami, Peyton?"
Hell... we have Lebron and Wade doing that, but not the legendary Dolphin???

Maybe because he works for CBS he doesn't want to look like a homer???? I don't get it.

Based on what he has to say when he is on air he doesn't appear to have any real passion for personal evaluation. I mean if you listen to Mayock or Gruden you hear guys who are totally focused on every little detail about players. They can go on and on about players from multiple angles. I've never heard any real, serious analysis from Marino with this kind of detail about any element of the NFL.

Marino was one hell of a Hall of Fame QB, but no one ever accused him of being a cerebral QB. ;)

If he really wanted to I'm sure he is capable of this but he has never seemed to be about this. Remember he left after Wayne hired him because he didn't like the hours I think.

As we all know.. Marino was offered and accepted a FO job here with the Dolphins.. Marino jumped all over the chance and accepted, as I believe this is something he really wanted at the time... Then once the job duties was explained to him, he saw how screwed up the FO is... and said... whoa.. back the horses up...

I dont blame Marino for his decision, however, if given a little more respect, I believe Marino could give the franchise more respect than Elway brought to the Broncos when he took the GM position..

A few posts somewhat missing the point. I know marino resigned but
If marino was hired and marino stayed. The president of football operations or whatever equivilent title he had. May not have necessarily involved as deep player evaluation as thought.
The idea that elway may be wooing manning makes me wonder. If we had marino to wooo high caliber quarterbacks here. Would we be such a mess right now?which qb could marino have woo'ed here?

Parcells did build the team for the last couple of years and did bring the Fins to the playoffs/AFC East championship. He is generally overrated, but let's be fair here - he did contribute to this team.

Besides, why the hell would you want a quarterback - that he is in the hall of fame doesn't matter - to build your team? Not every player turns into a coach and not every hall-of-famer is a talent evaluater.
