If the Fins Hadn't Snatched Gase Up Quickly - How Many Offers Could Gase Have Received?

Not my first or second choice, but apparently he was Ross's all the way and props to TBum for closing that deal quickly. Also there's been much insider and reporter scuttlebutt that Gase and Jackson were the 2 hottest candidates this season with everyone else being consolation prizes.

So the question is, if The Fins dragged their feet on Gase, how many offers do you think he'd have ended up with?

My speculation is that Gase, if available would have received 2 other offers plus there being a plausible possibility of him getting 2 more out of the 6 that were available.

SF: Yes: protracted process before settling on Kelly; Gase rejected their HC offer last season because he didn't want Tomsula who's now gone. Easy to think that if Baalke and York wanted him last year, there's no reason they wouldn't want him again.

Philadelphia: Yes: Highly thought of, a 2nd interview being scheduled. Considering who they ended up with, hard to believe Gase would not have received the offer there.

Giants: Strong Possibility. Interviewed and like in Philly, considering who they ended up with, good likelihood if the Fins didn't take him out of play, he'd have ended up with that job too

Cleveland: Maybe. Again, Gase and Jackson were the hottest 2 HC candidates. Cleveland did great in hiring Hue.. and had to wait for him until Cinci was eliminated, so the extended timing doesn't reflect poorly on him. The offer could have gone to either of them with the other one being a perfectly acceptable consolation prize

Tampa Bay: No... always had an eye on their prize, Koetter, and sacrificed Lovie to get him

Titans: No.. the interview process was a charade. Adams daughter identified with Mularkey and wanted him from the get-go

Your thoughts?

Well we know the Eagles loved him, I'm also pretty sure the 49ers wanted him too. His fire would have only grown throughout the process. safe to say we got a guy everyone else wanted for once!

He got offers last year and even one two years ago so he was in demand. One reason as soon as he interviewed we closed the deal. Ross has been left at the alter many times and he wasn't about to let his man get away.

Like you Vaark I was hoping for an experienced HC but this guy has a chance to be something special.

I believe he was the HOT commodity, he had 9 interviews in 2 years. That's a lot of interests IMO.

I dont think the Giants take him, because it would have meant losing McAdoo most likely. If they were happy enough to hire McAdoo in the end then I suspect they would have preferred the devil they know over the devil they don't.

I think Gase would have been a toss up to Clevaland.
Hue is without a doubt the more accomplished coach but his shenanigans in Oakland are a legitemate concern.

No way of really knowing. Im sure that he would have got another offer but not sure every team wanted him. I didnt want him

I love that he turned down offers before this year to be HC. Means he wasn't just going to take any job to become a HC and waited for what he felt was his best shot at success. Also great that he has worked with Peyton and thought highly enough of tannehill to hitch his wagon to him. I think tannehill will be better next season. I'm thinking closer to 40 tds and hopefully more rushing yards than this year.

To be honest, I'm not sure McAdoo would have ended up a HC in one of the openings. Maybe Philly but other than that it seems most teams had their sights on certain guys once the dominos started to fall and then you had TB and Tenn who seemed to already have their minds made up.

it was certainly reported that he was the top choice for the Browns and Eagles. Giants is an interesting one

I am not going to bash him, I think he did a great job w/ Cutler and can turn out to be a good HC but you always bashed Rex b/c Bal didn't hire him, how come you are high on gase when denver didn't hire him? and a bunch of teams passed on him, again not saying he will succeed or fail but you have to be fair.

what offer did he turn down?

San Fransisco last season.

He turned down San Francisco last year when they insisted he keep one of their coordinators if i'm not mistaken.

I know you're going to just believe whatever makes the 'Fins look bad, but I'll answer anyways. Of course the GM is not going to admit a coach declined to take their job. It makes the organization look bad. And it weakens a coach if the players think he was a fallback option. Where there's smoke there's fire, and there are too many reports stating that Gase turned down the offer because he didn't want to be forced into hiring coordinators he didn't want for it to not have some level of truth to it.
