The Rams and the Phins have been dealing ALOT this offseason...I think its possible that we haven't seen the last of that! Maybe the action between the 2 teams could be because of their previous relationship (my guess between (linehan & mueller)

Linehan loved the talent he had here in Miami no doubt...hes been stealing all our players. Which is why I think hes going to pull the trigger on Ricky! Theres debate on what we could get for Ricky at this point...but because of recent reports of him being in the best shape of his life and in great spirits and newfound commitment and passion for the game of football...hes worth a 3rd-4th rounder to his previous offensive coordinator Scott Linehan! Its true
the Rams were a better offense when Faulk still had some gas in the tank andJackson split carries with him...Linehan utilized Ronnie/Ricky well while here in Miami and and it gave him 1 very important thing, durability! I think he really wants to pair Jackson/Ricky and have that same NON-stop attack on the ground and that will open up his passing game. Linehan also said he "would be willing to fight for Ricky" ...thats another reason why I see a 3rd-4th round pick coming from St. Louis, Linehan has had extensive PERSONAL experience with Ricky and has obviously been very UP TO DATE on his progress. If this trade goes down...like I said, it could mean a BIG change on offense!

NOW, before all you Ricky-supporters (I am one myself!) go crazy on me for being supportive of trading Ricky off to St. Louis...just hear me out!

From this point on I'm discussing a theory that I think could come to be in result of this trade between Miami and the Rams (Ricky for a 3rd-4th rounder):

What IF our offensive genius Cam Cameron and our brilliant GM Randy Mueller have fallen in love with both Quinn and Peterson? Don't they remind you of Philip Rivers and a young L.T.? Some believe Peterson would fit Cam's style of offense better than Ricky or Ronnie.

This would be all of our picks come draft day if we were to get the 2nd of St. Louis's 3rd rounders for Ricky!

Our 1st (pick 9)
2nd RD (40th)
2nd RD (60th)
3rd RD (71)
3rd RD (82) - from St. Louis for Ricky (hypothetical)
4th RD (108)
6 RD (181)
6 RD (199)
7 RD (219)
7 RD (238)
7 RD (249) - from St Louis for Donnie Jones (earlier trade)

So we have our 1st, 2- 2nd-rounders, 2-3rd rounders, a 4th, 2-6th rounders, and 3-7th rounders!!! Thats 11 picks ladys and gentleman - officially more picks that weve had in a decade! With all those picks, you can see we have alot of ammo to move up if we feel the need to establish a real offense! One that would last for a long time...

This is why I think selecting Brady Quinn and Adrian Peterson both is possible...we have so many picks it seems as if we have been aquiring them FOR a PURPOSE! If Quinn and Peterson were to fall past the "big 3"...Miami could easily snag both of them if we really wanted to and this would be increasingly possible if they continued to fall closer to our pick at 9...we would have 2 of the best rookie prospects in the draft at their positions in recent years filling 2 BIG areas of need and KEY roles to a Cam Cameron style offense!

After aquiring our franchise QB and a new counter-part to Ronnie Brown we would be free to find OL (Another major area of need on offense) in the later rounds in the draft! Doesn't this sound familiar? Its because Cam has done it before! Combine the San Diego Chargers 2004 draft and what took place that day with our creative minded GM and his history who likes to make big things happen come draft day and you have a recipe for a dolphin DYNASTY!

This would be a VERY SIMILAR draft to the one that San Diego pulled off in 2004 and this is why: They drafted Rivers, 2 later round OL prospects who turned out to be pro bowlers! They turned the season around from 4-12 to 12-4 in 1 year because of this!

The Chargers already had LT when they pulled that draft off and we already have Ronnie Brown..but if we trade Ricky away we suddenly lose that 1-2 punch that seems to be the trend today...we could stage one of the best duo's at RB the league as ever seen if we drafted Peterson.

We would have Brady Quinn...Ronnie Brown & Adrian Peterson...hopefully a few young OL prospect's that Houck could coach up...it gives me goose bumps just thinking about it...what if..just what if Cam/Mueller were to talk out a scenario such as this...a huge re-vamp to the offense for the future of the franchise. I want all yalls phins-dollars if this were to happen and I called it :p

Final thoughts on why I think all this happens:

(The Draft Scenario - Quinn/Peterson/Late OL picks)
- We have been STACKING draft picks ever since Cam's arrival. All this time we thought "OH! He/Randy are doing this to build on the offensive line!!! WELL WHAT IF it was pre-emptive moves for a much bigger draft, one so much like Cam/SD did in 04. An injection of youth and promise for the years to come on the offensive side of the ball at KEY positions.
Mueller said they have discussed ALL the "what if scenarios" and we certainly have the firepower to make just about anything happen...this is truly a blessing that Saban left and we have an OFFENSIVE minded man running the show...I can only hope they make a statement on offense in this draft. We would have 2 young pro-bowl potential rookies on offense at 2 critical positions in QB/RB and we'd hopefully lock them down for years to come...Houck could coach up the late-round OL prospects same as he did in SD...This would be talked about for years if it went down! Call me an optimist ;)

(Ricky trade and re-uniting with Linehan)
- St Louis has made their interest in Ricky public! They clearly NEED defense so they have NO interest in the 2 guys we would be taking ahead of them - they would probably not be concerned. Not to mention the fact that they've been stealing all our offensive players and Ricky would fit in just nicely.

The trade between St. Louis and us makes perfect sense (Ricky for a 3rd-4th) and so does our possible desire for both Quinn/Peterson...if they both fell past the 6th this becomes no longer a dream but a true reality!

Bottom-line - Cam Cameron and Hudson Houck turned the San Diego Chargers (a laughing stock of the NFL at 4-12 and under-achieving offense with LT) into a 12-4 contender the very next year when Brees came outta nowhere and lead the newly improved offense to the playoffs with Mr. Philip Rivers awaiting...They ARE responcible for that franchises turn-around and combine them with Randy Mueller...I think were in for quite a show come draft day folks!

Now...I understand I just left you out there with a theory and a dream, but it IS POSSIBLE if they fall past the big 3, especially if we see a departure from Williams! If we were able to get Quinn or Peterson at our 9th pick...we would only have to make 1 trade up using any combination of our 2 2nd's, 2 3rd's, 4th or vet. player (ie: Marty Booker) - we could use all that as trade bait to move up to get the other of the 2 that we dont think would slip! I'll leave you all with the trade scenario options we would be looking at..im getting too tired ;)

EDIT: If you dont think that Ricky will be traded..then I throw the idea out there that Ronnie is just not Cam Camerons style of RB. This could still be a possibility! Especially since we could get a 1st RD pick for Brown! If you disagree with that idea as well then I hope this atleast sparked interest in you to post what kind of trade up scenarios you think are possible, if you have any ideas yourself!

That's quite a post! If they could pull this off, it would be fantastic, but there are an awful lot of moving parts in the draft scenario. I'm rooting for you though. All of my past and future phin dollars will be yours if it comes to be...

Problem is that they aren't going to make a decision on RW until after the draft. No trade is going to be made based on IF RW gets reinstated prior to that actually happening by R. Goodell.

So your premise is seriously flawed in that respect. Miami can't trade a player that is not on their roster...

if brady quinn goes to the browns I want adrian petterson. if a team wants AP we shoulld make them pay a heavy price.

That would be amazing, but I think you're dreaming too big. We need to be more practical with our RB/QB combo. Practical would be Peterson/Stanton, Peterson/Smith, Quinn/Bush, Quinn/Irons, Quinn/Lynch... if, in fact, we did draft a RB and QB.

Edit: I may have misunderstood your post.

I just made an edit considering the fact that Miami doesnt trade Ricky to the Rams before the draft. Check the bottom :)

Even if Ricky was to be reinstated prior to the draft, no one would give up more than a conditional 2008 draft pick.

True, but if they had made a decison on parting ways with Williams for a future draft pick that will still lead us to losing the 1-2 punch and more importantly durability and depth at the position! We could solve this 2 ways...Lorenzo Booker or another RB prospect in the later rounds, or Adrian Peterson...who knows maybe theyre going to try and get Quinn, Booker, and get more quality O-line men and my theory would be close...just without the other major star ;)

Ricky will be elgible to return as of the 25th. The Draft is the 28th. From your lips to Gods ears. What a concept. Go Cam/Ran!

Lets hope brotha! :dolphins: Ya know...one thing I just thought about while lookin at other threads..Cam/Randy said they're "ready" for surprises in the draft...haha I think it'd be so clever and ironic if they themselves were planning on making the biggest boldest surprise of all the teams come draft day and they made themselves out to be content in their spot and ready for anything that happens at #9. I'm off to bed for the night, hope to see some more replies in the mornin!

Interesting thoughts there m8

What package of picks do you think we would need to trade back into say #10 ? WOuldnt that involve trading next years 1st rounder as well to get back in that high ?

That's a very intriging scenario but i think the cost would be way too high to move into the top ten with a second pic. I could see peterson being taken with the 9th pic if he's still on the board and then selecting say beck, stanton, or edwards in the second round. If quinn is available then we could take him at 9 and then take the highest rated runner on the board in the 2nd round. Of course this scenario only works if we deal ricky.

Whoa there, bucko. This post was great up until this edit. Why on Earth would we trade away our one proven high end talent on offense? AP hasn't proven jack in the NFL and may not pan out. Ronnie is the favorite of many fans and I for one think that would be the worst possible move. And how do you know Ronnie is not Cam's "style" of halfback? He can run with power and speed and he can catch balls out of the back field.

With that said, even without the Ricky trade, it may be possible to trade up to the 10th pick with the remaining of our picks from rounds 2-7. But that would leave any room for O line picks. I just don't see anything this outlandish happening.

Man you are oozing passion for your team! While others are counting their blessings, you're counting hypothetical scenarios for the Dolphins to get better. When Linehan says he's "willing to fight for Ricky", that does create some intriguing draft day backdrops. What does that mean? Willing to fight for Ricky? If we could get a 5th for a 30 year old multiple drug offender, quitter, yoga instructor I'm all for it! I wonder if he's willing to fight for Culpepper? Maybe we can combo package Culpepper with Ricky for a 3rd. Didn't Culpepper play QB while Linehan was in Minnesota? Ricky could rehab Daunte's knee with Ayurevedic meds and meditation! One week to go... the "what if's" are exploding all over!

There was an article that says there is a good chance that, even though Ricky is eligible for reinstatement on the 25th, that he probably won't get a decision until after the draft. As far as a rebuilding effort goes, this could be a good thing for us. Next year's picks are thought to be less valuable than this year's until next year actually comes around so we may, in fact, be able to get a higher pick in next year's draft for Ricky than we would have in this year's draft. Although we will have to wait a year for that return!
