Chad Pennington couldn't have played better than he did tonight. What we just watched was his best effort. And it's not his fault that we lost, but he's not gonna be the reason why we win. At least not any playoff games.

I'm not saying Penny isn't good, but what throws did he make tonight that Henne couldn't. And when it came down to a 2/3 min drill where was the game management that Penny is known for?

We've seen what Penny can do and after a 1-15 season it was a welcome change. But after an 0-2 start following an 11-5 division championship season our standards need to be higher

So my question is, why not start Henne NOW? What are we waiting for?

Well i think they would wait until the "season standards" have completely imploded before they made a change. I keep targeting the Saints game after the bye week. That would be ideal to bring Henne in IMO, but to do so we'd have to be pretty much out of the race, so i'm thinking 1-4 or 0-5 heading into the bye. The Saints game is at home, against a team that defensively isn't very good. You saw how Kevin Kolb started his first game against them for the Eagles and he went off for almost 400 yards. That might be a pretty good confidence booster for Henne, he can come right in and have some immediate success rather than being thrown in there against a real tough team on the road like John Beck was.

If Pennington couldn't have played any better than he did tonight then we're definitely doomed and should throw in the towel from now. I didn't notice this "flawless" performance by Pennington that many of you are referring to. I saw him over / under throw wide open receivers in the endzone three times. Terrible clock management as well, which while the coaches are mostly to blame for that, you have to put it partially on the QB as well. 10-15 seconds of Pre-snap adjustments with no timeouts and the clock ticking there, ugh. Disgusting.

He wasn't flawless, but he was good enough to get a victory. Which he didn't, because his defense completely **** the bed.

Also the under/overthrows you're talking about were all very catchable so i'm not quite sure what you're getting at. The one ball that Fasano laid out for was a little too high (though he probably still should have had it), that's about it. The play at the end went right off of Ginn's hands and the previous play Ginn short armed a ball that was a little high but DEFINITELY catchable. It's already well established that Chad Pennington doesn't throw a perfect deep ball. Those three passers definitely weren't perfect, but all three could have been caught and WOULD have been caught if we traded skill position players with the Colts.

Clock management i'll give you. I don't know what the hell was going on there. I put that mostly on the coaches but definitely some of it goes to Pennington too. If the coaches were that indecisive late in the game, i'd run my own offense. Pennington is a smart guy i'm sure he knows that a third and 1 sneak play just to get a first down and kill 15 seconds probably isn't the wisest move. On the other side of the field Peyton Manning wouldn't be listening to Tom Moore in the same situation. Not that it should have even come down to that final drive, the defense collapsed.

Don't forget that 3rd & 6 in the 4th when we did a horses**t run play up the middle....What was that all about??? Oh yeah...playing safe instead of having some balls to try to get a 1st with a pass play or at least a run outside. If we did that and got a 1st we could have run the clock down to maybe 1:30 or so. It may not have mattered though since it only took Manning about a minute each time to score on us. Thank God he wasn't in the game more.....they would have score 60 pts.!!!
