If pats go 17-0...

Damn the Herald for even raising this notion!!!

I know that the article is somewhat positive, but this question shouldn't have even been raised. They are an official Miami news paper and they don't even f***ing support the Phins half the time. As much as they bash the team they might as well be the New York Times or the Boston Globe. I'm at college in Virginia and get the Washington Post forced on me, and every game after the Redskins, they always try to give encouragement to the fans of the team in their articles regardless of the outcome of a game. I must have missed the memo on the national Patriots orgy, because this has been going on almost 3 years now and I am really starting to get PISSED!

17 wins in a row is amazing, but it's not the same as 17-0.

Perfect season wins out, even over 18 wins in a row or 20
Correct. Even if a teams wins 33 in a row over 2 season, it does not add up to doing it over one season.

Pats fan here.

A 17 game winning streak over two years has nothing on a perfect season.

But a record is a record is a record and if the Patriots are able to break the record of 18 consecutive wins, it would be a great accomplishment.

Having said all that........The Patriots 15 game winning streak of last season should get more recognition. They beat TEN teams that were 10-6 or better. No other team has ever done that. Miami, by the way, only beat one team with a winning record in 1972.

Conclusion:

The Patriots two year winning streak (of 16 or 17 or 18 or 19, etc...) doesn't even compare to the Dolphins perfect season. They're apples and oranges.

But the '03 Patriots winning streak of 15 games DOES compare to the 17 straight games won by the '72 Dolphins and considering all the circumstances surrounding both streaks (schedule, salary cap, parity or balance, league growth, etc...) one could even argue that the Patriots streak was MORE IMPRESSIVE.

Who knows? Maybe this argument will be irrelevant in a few months. It sure will be if the Patriots end up extending their winning streak to 34 games.

hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

You actually think the pats streak last year is more impressive than the undefeated season? WRONG! you can say records all you want but until you go from week 1 through SB undefeated it isnt the same. Now I will say if you go 19-0 in one season that would be more imprerssive.

Well that Pats have one thing they can say for their 16 game win streak. They stuck a Super Bowl win right in the middle of it.

On the flip side, if in fact the stinkin patsies go undefeated this year, that would/possibly, in this watered down era, arguable = to or better than what the perfect team did.

It would be 10 times better than what the Phins did in '72.

The Phins opponents in '72 had a combined winning percentage of .327, which BTW, is by far the lowest of any team who ever won a Super Bowl.

Also, there is no way the Pats go undefeated this year.

Wll not quite, its more closer to the end, But if it winds up having been in the middle,

Why the hell do you think the opponent's combined winning percentage was so low....Because the dolphins handed each of their opponents at least one loss. Plus they had to beat Pittsburgh in the playoffs, who was on the verge of a dynasty, as well as a very tough Washington team. Opponents winning percentage or not, winning 17 straight in the same season is no easy task.

I was just stating a fact.

And I agree, both the Steelers and Redskins were very good teams that year.

Also, the Phins knocked off a very good Browns team in the 1st round of the playoffs.
